Someone Tried To Hack Me..

I guess I've been pretty lucky in that I've never had any of my blogs hacked, however, one of my new ones that I've done virtually no work on other than creating the content just had someone attempt to hack it.

I got an email from the "Wordpress Firewall" plugin I have installed that said it stopped a potential sql injection - the IP address that tried to is from Romania.

So, what do I do now? Do I just let the firewall plugin keep doing it what it's doing and hope he doesn't come back or..

The first thing you do is backup everything. The sad part is most people don't backup, then find out when it's too late all their hard work is gone down the tube. I'd recommend calling your hosting provider to see if they have any information or suggestions for beefing up security.

If you're on a cPanel account, you should already have backups on the server, BUT it never hurts to make another backup and store it locally.

Hack attempts will never cease since almost all of it is automated. Your best bet is to block the ip the hack attempt came from, ensure cphulk is enabled in cpanel whm, do offsite backups, and check with your hosting provider to see if they can help.

Get a server that has PhpSuExec and sql injection will not be something you will have to worry about. Pat I thought you had WPS ??

I do have it on most of my blogs, however, the ones I had before I bought WPS don't have it because I'm technically challenged and didn't want to have to edit all of those files manually, haha. I also don't really like using Wordpress 2.6.

For those blogs I've opted for a few plugins which seem to be doing the trick.

I contacted Hostgator and they have sent it to their security team to investigate. Nothing actually got hacked, I was just wondering if there was something additional I should be doing once someone attempts to hack.

Yeah understood .. Well hopefully I will be getting to updating it soon for v3 ...

I don't think you have anything to worry about being on hostgator you should have PhpSuExec which would stop most sql injections. It pretty much was probably a script kiddie that was bored and wanted to see if he/she could hack it for the heck of it.

Yeah, well the IP was from a Romanian University so he might have just been bored in class!

          Thanks.

Hacking is very wrong. People don't realize the impact hacking can put on someone's life.
