How To Start Making Money With Article Writing

47 replies
My first real money online was made through article writing. That was over 4 years ago and I still make regular income from it and I now run 2 article writing sites- www.thefreelancewriters.com and ArticleWriter.net. Just thot I should share this with new and upcoming internet enterpreneurs.

Article writing is the easiest way to start making money online. If you can write, you can start making some money asap. The better you are; the more the volume of jobs that will come your way.

So many crappy writers have saturated the article writing niche these days but the good news is most of them are terrible writers only few of them have a good command of the English Language, so if you have a good command of English, you should be able to carve a niche for yourself.

Writing The Articles

Using Search Engines
Usually I simple use search engines like Google to check out the keywords.
For example if the article is about "dog training", that's the main keyword.
I type dog training into Google and check out a couple of the results. I then jot points on dog training from different article sources and write an article in my own words using the

    You're right - Associated Content is a great place to start. However, NEVER try to post your affiliate links in your articles here. They don't allow it, and if one of their editors catches you, you could be in a bit of hot water.

    Bukisa is a good site for making performance-only money. They pay over twice as much in performance payments that Associated Content does, but they do not pay up front.

      YIKES, it is hurting my eyes just to read what you are asking. THAT is a redundant NO. An article spinner software is worthless. They replace words for synonyms but the sentence structure stays exactly the same. This means that it will be incoherent. More often than not you will have to re-write what the spinner did, so you will be wasting precious time. A software does not think, analyze or place ideas in context.

      There is no better spinner than a human brain.

      That's taking the easy way out my friend. I have a few partners that use them and still have to constantly re-arrange the paragraphs.

      I would advise you to write the articles yourself.

      Well I love the responses to your question ....lol Obviously from people that have no idea what a real spinner is. Yes you can properly spin articles that require no editing after and will read 100% perfect and you can even get them to be 70%+ in uniqueness.

      This has been proven by many over and over... What many fail to understand and see is that spun articles (done properly) have a vast amount of benefits. We do not spin articles just to post to other article directories.

      The reason why some of us that work smart and spin our articles is because it is very effective marketing. Some of the reasons to spin articles are:

      * Create Mini Reports
      * Create Press Release
      * Create Blog Post
      * Create Ebooks
      * Create PDF Documents
      * Create Squido and Hubpages
      * Create Videos

      But there is more to it then just this.

      Let's say you write your article and post it on your site and then take that same exact article and post it on 10 article directories. There is nothing at all wrong with this and no it will not hurt your rankings and no duplicate content penalty does not exist.

      But you may very well be missing out on great opportunities to generate additional opt-in's, customers, or followers.

      Now let's say you properly spin your article (not tweak it, but spin it to 70%+ uniqueness) and you post the original on your site and post 10 spun articles on 10 article directories.

      This is what you are going to get for working smart and taking the time to "properly" spin your article.

      1. You can use this spun content to repurpose into other formats as explained in the above post.

      2. Almost all article directories have author rss feeds, if you submit those feeds then all you are doing is putting out 10 rss feeds that have the same exact content. Who wants to subscribe to 10 exact same rss feeds ? If you spin the articles and each directory gets a different spun article then your author rss feeds are now 70%+ unique and thus will get more subscribers.

      3. If at such time the article directories or search engines do start kicking out articles that are posted on other sites then you entire business is screwed. If you spun them though, you have nothing to worry about because you worked smart and took care of the problem before a real problem existed.

      4. By properly spinning your articles you have the ability to target other keywords with the spun versions, everybody knows targeting just 1 keyword is not going to brng the bacon home. You must target several different keywords.

      There are other reasons but this could turn into an entire ebook if I was to explain it all...

      johnmags,

      While a flat-fee payment, for articles, is certainly an enticing business model and framework, there are very few of my articles that I would even sell (and relinquish all rights to) for $100.

      Here is why:

      One has to think of this as a business. If you are going to sell an article of yours, for immediate gratification of a flat fee payment (I do recognize that SOME may NEED to do this because of financial situations...)....the purchasing company clearly is going to take that article they just purchased for $100 and use it somehow that will generate them significantly more over time.

      This is how it works.

      For a writer, many have found writing for lifetime residuals to be MUCH more appealing. Of course, I do concede that you may actually want to integrate both opportunities into your article writing plans.

      I have found that LONGER articles, in my case, tend to do much much better in the search engines for a variety of reasons. For those articles, the $30+/month that I earn on a SINGLE article, is a MUCH better investment writing for lifetime residuals than for selling that same article for a $100 flat fee (that will probably be flipped for several thousand in lifetime of the company and article).

      There aren't many places, that I know of, that will pay a writer a $100 for a single article....instead, around $15 seems to be the going rate.....

      I would NEVER sell any of my articles for $15.

      Of course, i realize an argument could certainly be made both ways, with case studies to substantiate both points of view. In my case, I prefer lifetime residuals.

      Just reading this thread, it amuses me how many people are confusing "article marketing" and "bum marketing" - hence the question about spinning - with article writing, which is what the OP was talking about.

          Answers To Some Of The Questions Asked

          1. Do you use Article Spinners?

          For my article writing, nope! I and my team of writers write articles from the scratch for my clients.

          For my article marketing, Not yet but I may start using it to help promote some of my sites.

          2. Do you use any other directory apart from EZA?

          For article writing, i usually just input the topic into EZA's search box, if that doesn't work. I use Google. Between the 2 of them I always get what I need.

          For article marketing nope, I only use EZA at the moment and I get great results from there. I am looking into checking out directories though, always good to have a back up plan.

      This is an excellent post. I do see the point another forum member is making between article writing and article marketing. His articles are the products in his business. He's not creating articles to build backlinks to services or products. This makes a big difference.

      As far as spinners go, I don't use them. Have tried several and the articles have to be revised. I'd rather just rewrite it, but that's me. I provide unique content and take pride in my work.

      On another note, I'd like to share my experience with AssociatedContent. I joined the site when they first launched, with many other bloggers from a community I was active in. One by one, bloggers started complaining how they were having problems with the site. One of the girls was making tons of money with them, became one of their top content producers with millions of views. She won their annual contests for most views, content, etc. Then they suspended her account without explanation.

      There was one other situation that bothered several of us. We found content that had been plagiarized word for word from other sites on the net. Some of the content belonged to me and a blogger I knew. We reported this writer that was lifting content and nothing was done. It seemed that as long as they were making money from the content, it's origin was irrelevant. This was the second red flag.

      Since I had already submitted the content, I started doing some link building to increase my income. Then it happened to me. No explanation. They don't even answer your email. I wasn't that upset since I made tons of money in the beginning from referral fees. However, other people that has submitted hundreds of articles just lost out. The worst part is that they will usually outrank any other article you try to submit somewhere else. At least, that's what happened to several people I know. I was skeptical of the whole situation, until it happened to me.

      I'm not telling anyone to quit or not join the site. Everyone here is an adult that can make their own decisions. I just wanted to share my personal experience, so that you may consider not giving them full rights to your content. That way, if your account is cancelled you can still use your content (rewritten or for article marketing).

      If you want to make money with your articles, I suggest using a site like HubPages (keep your rights), ConstantContent (sell your articles) or create your own site.

      Ending this reply. I think I said all I had to say. lol!

    well for me i started out writing articles as a newbie but the demand for my job was so much i couldnt meet up so i have to let go.

    but what iv used that has made me a sought after article writer then where just these simple step

    Step 1-Go to Google.com type in Google trends this shows keywords that people look for everyday.

    step 2- what i do next is to jot down the keywords that are relevant to my search
    step 3- with what i have in my pad i starts off with my research

    note-if an article takes time, is best to take your time and write a great article, than to write an article real quick, and still have to wait to make big money earnings on it.

    An article that is well written, that has a lot of good keywords, details, pictures will make a lot more money than an article that lacks details, information, or that doesn't have any pictures at all.

    Another important factor under keywords within your articles is, analyze what other possibilities could a person be looking at in Google itself, that they could type in, and look at your article.

    Even with all this information we can always research more, and know extra ways to provide even more money to your articles.

    There is so much more that you can do with your articles other than just selling them for an upfront price. You can begin writing for yourself and build residual income. Places like Suite 101, Bukisa, and InfoBarrel allow you to post your articles on their sites and get a portion of the related ad clicks that appear around the content. This is what a lot of WAHM's are doing nowadays.

    The best recommendation, however, is to create a blog and fill it with content, and once it gets some traffic, monetize it with ads or affiliate links. This is the best way to go for long term income.

    Since you are asking for other places where one can write and want to include ELance.com andd Guru.com, I would also go ahead and include ODesk.com.
