How Do You Think The Economy Will Effect "Online" Businsses?

Hundreds of companies are closing their doors all across our nation. Every week I read about another chain of stores closing their doors. Top economists say unemployment is acutally over 20%.

Many top IM gurus have sunk into so-called retirement in the last few months. Are online businesses down as well?

Will anyone dare touch on this rather depressing subject?

I'm asking the Warrior's to please be upfront and say how the economy has effected their online business in the last year or so? Is it up or down?

Thanks everyone. You're all great!!

Happy Trails!

Probably depends on what niche you're in. However, the economy hasn't affected me online one bit! Just sold a website for $7,000... and made about $32,000 since last August on a product launch... so people are buying!

My marketing consulting business has grown through the economic downturn. Smart businesses know that during a period of economic contraction, the marketplace becomes more competitive, and they need to respond by becoming smarter marketers to stretch their dollars spent. That translates into a boon of qualified prospects that are looking for BONAFIDE EXPERTISE in this area.

I stress bonafide because a business owner can smell the BS coming from a rank amateur posing as an "offline marketing consultant" a mile away. People who think they can hustle offline businesses out of cash by tossing some rehashed internet marketing garbage at them won't be in the game for very long.

On-line sales continue to climb. I am fond of saying 'there is no recession on the internet.'

was reading a report earlier that said business with online presence was weathering the recession alot better - The internet is definitely the place to be if you want to make money, now more than ever.

I'd assume that since the internet is worldwide (and therefore businesses that are web-based are also worldwide), that the individual economy of one particular country or another shouldn't effect IM much, if at all. The only thing i could see effecting it is if you happen to be in a niche that for whatever reason relies solely on the customers within a country whose economy is going down the drain. Otherwise, I don't see how it could affect IM. That's my thought anyway.

I see more and more people coming online wanting to learn how they can supplement their income. Getting started online is cheap, even free, and so scores of people are coming online to see what the web has to offer them.
If anything the opportunities online are growing every day.
