HELP! Issues setting up Name Cheap domain on Hostgator hosting...

Hi,

Yesterday I bought a domain with Namecheap. I already have hosting with Hostgator. It took me a while to figure out how to set up a Name Cheap domain name on Hostgator hosting... I changed the name servers from default to the servers my hosting company provided me with. I created an add on domain name...but nothing is happening. My domain name doesn't load when I typ it in the URL bar. Nobody is going too wait THAT long for my website to load. What did I do wrong?
I hope someone can help me out.

Sounds like you did it all correctly. Usually, when you change the nameservers at NameCheap to HostGator's nameservers, it's pretty quick - like within the next 10-15 minutes. I did experience a slow propogation once at New Year's.

Double check that there's no typos at HostGator when you created that add on. Other than that, can't think of anything else.

The trick I learned early on was to point the domain name to your host's nameserver FIRST, then set the site up on the server or submit the ticket for your host to do it.

When you do it the other way around (creating the site on the server first), it takes a
lot longer for the site to propagate to the server. Sometimes as much or more than 24 hours.

When you set the nameservers up first, then set up the hosting, your site usually goes
    live instantly or within minutes.

Please keep in mind that this is my experience with using my own dedicated server,
but it's the same thing with your hostgator account. Only difference is you are sharing
a dedicated server with other users.

    Hope this helps

I just did this last night - I have a name cheap acct. I set the NS's at
name cheap, then added the domain at my host which is host gator.
It was ready in a pretty quick amount of time.

Katya, have you tried chatting with host gator about it? Maybe they
can tell you something or help you.

Katya, I also use namecheap and hostgator, and I've set up loads of addon domains. The propagation delay has been very quick for me - within minutes, really.

I'm wondering if it's possible that somewhere along the line, hostgator moved you to a different server (I think they did that with me once) such that the initial DNS info you received is no longer valid? Just a wild idea, but might be worth checking.

To check on it, login to your cpanel, and in the lower area of the left sidebar you should see your current DNS info. Make sure that's what you've provided to namecheap.

Also, once done, logout and back in to namecheap to make sure your changes 'stuck'.

Don't know if this will help, just grasping at straws here - but if worse comes to worse, I've always had pretty good luck using the live chat help on the hostgator site.

      Keep us posted,

    Problem solved!
There was a problem with my hosting company.
I contacted Hostgators live support and this is what they told me: "your re-direct was creating a loop in your .htaccess file"

Computer language haha... I don't get it but hey it works. :p
