One or two blogs in the IM and Web Site management niches

Hey guys , I need to decide whether to create 1 or 2 blogs on the topics of first - Internet Marketing in general (all of it ) and secondary subject is Web Sites management and Design for clients.

The purpose of the site(s) is to publish useful information but also to establish my credibility as a consultant(perhaps to offline bizes ) in these areas.

SEO-wise , it is probably better to have two sites i.e - to get higher "keyword condensation" . Secondly ,two different sites will let the homepage contain more niche targeted information , thus catching more attention.

However the argument for 1 site - is that I can market only one blog and not 2 , also considering that the site's niches are pretty related.

    I'd go with one blog and here's why.

    If you structure it correctly you can achieve a high rank for all your keywords, and become an authority while doing it.

    It's going to be easier and quicker to market a single site over two, really you're going to create competition with yourself.. and if you're hoping for organic traffic, Google will be checking each domain name you own, so having two or more in the same niche could come off as spam - if you're cross linking.

    Do you mean that you have the resources to market only 1 blog?

    I would concentrate on the one blog in the beginning, but if you have enough information to keep two blogs going, I don't really see a down side.

    Also, I think that having the top 2 sites in a niche or closely related niche would be better than having just the top site

    If you already have 50 post written for a blog, that pretty much gives you a lot of time to start creating posts on the second blog.

    If content creation is an issue, then it really depends on how much free time you have and how often you want to post to your blog(s).

    A good compromise might be to post on the primary blog weekly or twice a week, and every other week for the other blog, just so that over time, they'll both have content and they'll both have existed for a long time once you get the resources to populate them both more often

    It seems reasonable to me that if someone creates a blog and then dumps 100 posts on it all of a sudden, Google might see that as having less value than a blog that has a steady amount of posts over time.

    I'm pretty new, but I have my wordpress blog setup to post about every 6 days for the next 2 months. I mix up the time between the auto posts because to me it seems more "human".

    A friend of mine years ago, wasnt sure which niche to choose when wanting to start his blog. He had three ideas, Windows operating system - XP, or Brisbane's nightclubs and restaurants, or cars.

    In the end he couldnt make his mind up, and decided to do all three. Over time, it became obvious which was the most popular of the three - cars.

    He then decided to focus his efforts on the cars blog, sold the other sites, and now employs dozens of writers, and travels the world.

    In hindsight, starting 3 seperate blogs was the BEST decision he ever made. In a sense its niche "split testing". Theres nothing wrong with that!
