I am getting ready to do my first landing page using wordpress - I want to use it to redirect someone to an affilite site. Why do I need to keep posting?

I don't understand when people say you must keep posting to your blog - What do you post?

I have a domain name and using hostgator for wordpress.

It depends on how you intend to get traffic. If you're going to use only article marketing or PPC to drive traffic to your site, then on to the affiliate site, then no, you don't need to post on your blog all the time. In this case WordPress is just the platform. The fact that it's a blogging platform is incidental.

However, if you intend to drive traffic using SEO, then you need to post regularly.

One of the reasons that people say you must keep posting to your blog is that google looks favorably on this when deciding where to rank your blog in the serps. But that's just one of the over 200 things taken into consideration so while frequent posts are good it really depends on your overall strategy whether or not it is necessary for your biz.

The other thing is that if you are building your blog for repeat visitors frequent posts will keep them coming back. And also, the more pages you have, the more things you can get found for in the Se's.

But, it sounds like you are not building your blog for either of these reasons. If simply have a landing page or are just redirecting the url with your affiliate id, then you don't need to worry about posting to your blog.

What I have done in the past with decent results is to sticky my core articles (like 3 of them) to my wp blog homepage, then publish others regularly enough to have a bit of new content and new articles but because the front page is full of stickies they only go on to page 2 - so page stays relevant with my best work which leads to better sales, if any of the other articles do well I throw up a link to them in a "most popular articles" section on the right nav and this helps them to get a bit more internal link juice and rank better too.

I think some people go over the top though, and if you build a decent site with decent content then you can spend more time building backlinks and doing seo for your site rather than writing new posts every day.

If you need idea on what to keep posting on your site -
you can leverage trends. Tap into latest trends and
    discussing in your market.

Make a list of few keywords that describe your market.
    The go to Google Alerts
Then subscribe to google alert using keywords you on your list.
You will be getting latest alert from google.

You can write brief story about the alert and they
link to the rest of the story.

You can also check forums in your market for
ideas on what to write. You can write articles
based on questions people are asking in the
    forum.

I am also "confused" by the first sentence in the OP.

Is is a landing page or a redirect? They are not the same. If redirect - then you don't really need WordPress or any content at all. Actually, you don't need anything, just a 3 line redirect script in your index file.

    Ah.

    Ok.

If you just want to make a landing page with wordpress, here is the suggestion. Make the page that is your landing page a static home page - so it is the one that displays on front no matter what.

People advise you to keep posting to a blog as it stimulates the search engines by telling them your site is updated often. You don't have to post, but if you do it can benefit your site.

If you are just directing traffic to one page, then just do that.

You can check out my simple, barebones, themes in my sig and look at my templates site to see one, the Info Magazine, in action.

Assuming that by 'redirect' you mean a cloaked link that doesn't show your affiliate code, you'll need a plugin that handles this for you. I use GoCodes myself but there are some others around.

The idea of continuing to post is to get a new content bonus from Google. If you keep posting regularly, about every week or two, you'll keep getting this temporary bonus, most of the time.

The other strategy is to keep building links to the site, preferably stable high quality links, to take advantage of natural SEO. That's how you can have a static HTML site that was last updated in 2002 ranking for good keyword.

As for what to write about, you just cycle through keywords and long tail variations. For example, if you were doing a blog to promote SEO Elite you might use titles like these...

      SEO Elite Review
      Where to Buy SEO Elite
      How to Use SEO Elite
      SEO Elite Forums
How to Get a Discount on SEO Elite
Is There a SEO Elite Trial Version
Where to Get SEO Elite Support
Where to Get SEO Elite Help
Where to Get SEO Elite Training
Where to Get a SEO Elite Tutorial
Where to Find SEO Elite Training Videos

...and so forth. Just keep writing short articles, about 300-500 words at least every couple of weeks, faster if you want. Build links to the posts as well as the main page. Get traffic. Earn money. Rinse. Repeat.
