Beginner html question-Please help

I've been given the files thankyou.html and style.css. After changing the wording to my own using NVU and saving, when I upload thankyou.html via filezilla to my site, the wording appears but the page doesn't look the way it should. Apparently I'm suppose to do something with the style.css file but I don't know what. Can anyone help? These are the steps I've taken

step 1- save thankyou.html on my desktop
step 2- open nvu
step 3 open thankyou.html from my desktop using nvu
step 4- change the wording to make it my own
step 5- save the thankyou.html file so it now includes my words instead of what was previously provided on the page.
step 6 - close nvu and open filezilla
step 7- sign into filezilla. click on the mydomain.com public html.
Step 8- drag and drop the file thankyou.html from my desktop to mydomain.com so I now have mydomain.com/thankyou.html as a file.

I havent done anything with the style.css file. I don't know what to do with it. What should I do with it? Should I be pasting it somewhere in "source" via nvu? I just need to know what to do in order for the format of the page to appear correctly.

I've looked up some stuff online and tried several different things and nothing has worked so far. I'm sure its something simple that I just can't figure out. Can someone tell me the exact steps that should be taken?

Will hit the thanks button for anyone who can help me get this right. Thanks in advance

You need to upload teh style.css file plus all the images for the webpage. More then likely they are in an images folder in the HTML and you will have to create a images folder and place the images inside.

If the thank you page is where people are redirected after making a purchase, you really need to change the name of that file. There are all kinds of people who will see your sales pitch and simply type:
    www . yourDomain . com/thankyou.html
...into their browser to see if they can get your product for free. Using something cryptic, like rf3j82.html or whatever will help protect your product from scavengers.

    bbh4,

From the steps you posted in your OP, it appears you did them correct thus far. Most of us would love to help you, but you didn't specify what is wrong on the page. You only mention this line here:
when I upload thankyou.html via filezilla to my site, the wording appears but the page doesn't look the way it should.
Can you tell us how the page looks or what is missing?

For instance, is the page off center? Is it missing the main tables? Missing images? etc ...

    Or are you unsure?

If you want, you can either attach the files to an email, an email me from here in the forum, or you can cut and paste the code to each file and put it in a PM, and PM me.

I can take a quick look at it for you to see how it is coded if you want to do that.

    Edited ...

Dennise is right, you need to rename your file to something other than yourdomain dot com/thankyouhtml so you don't get robbed.

Yeah, you are definately missing the images. I had the same problem when I first started putting together sites.

    Good Luck.

I don't know where to upload it to or how. Do I do it using NVU? If so do I just go to the source and paste it somewhere. Do I do it using filezilla? cpanel?

Same as above. Don't know where to upload it to. After editing using NVU I had to save on my desktop and drag and drop the file since NVU won't save or publish for me.

That would be wonderful. I cant pm so can you give me your email address or skype or something. That would be great. As I said before I was only given two files the thankyou.html and the style.css. As far as what's wrong with the page. All it is, is a blank white page with black fonts. It should actually be a specific template with some colored font, etc. So I guess it is missing tables, etc.

D'oh! I just spent ages typing clear and specific instructions to sort this for you and the forum software thinks I'm trying to link

Here I go again - without tags...

    view source of 'thankyou'

Look in the head (near the top) for the line that refers to style.css

If it says somefolder/style.css upload your css file to the named folder.

    If no folder is named,
upload style.css to the same folder as 'thankyou'.

Filezilla or cPanel File Manager will do it.

    Kev

P.S. the css file may also be responsible for positioning instead of tables
P.P.S. Check that you do not already have a style.css in there or you will overwrite the old one - BAD!
