Blog as a separate entity or part of your website?

Hi ,
I posted recently about this and got one response to say it is more effective to use a separate blog (subdomain) for ranking etc. I am launching an ebook with my own website and have never worked with blogs just lenses. I would like to just get any further opinions on this before I get a blog made up? Which is more effective a wordpress one I guess attached to my site or maybe I would use a blogger one if I did a separate one??

Also, I will link some ezines to the blog, do you drive traffic to the home page of the blog or do you specifically direct them to a certain article page?.... I did say I have never worked with blogs before...!

      Thanks Mike, I have heard also that this is an option, what essentially make this option better that a static website plus intregated blog?

        The way I see it, there are pretty much two basic reasons to use a blog:

        1. link-building and traffic.

        2. Build a brand / authority in your niche.

        You can do both types of blogging at the same time, but hopefully that clarifies things for you and gives you a sense of where to put your energy.

        The more years I work in IM, the more I'm attracted to the longevity and "proud-of" factor that comes with approach number 2.

    Money I put the blog in the website. WHY? Because when you build up a following or if you already have a following, your readers are going to read your blog anyway, but they may not browse around and click on your adsense, aff links, etc. However, if you put it inside the website, the blog then becomes part of the big picture, which is your products . You want them there to buy, yeah and read, but you really want them to be buying. Just my two cents
