What is a good hosting company for a wordpress site?

I am looking for a hosting company that is reliable (very good uptime and consistent performance), very fast hosting, and is a good price.

I have a few domains so anything that can support more than one domain on a hosting plan is a big plus.

Also, I don't need much hosting space. 1gb-2gb is probably plenty. And 300gbs of bandwidth is likely enough too.
Just looking for speed, reliability, and cheap.

You have a lot of choices as Wordpress is prevelant. I have heard that hostgator is reasonable and reliable. I'm sure others have suggestions. I use a different service and it has been good to me.

HostGator is great. I have a WordPress site hosted with them, along with another site and they've been great. For $8/month you can host unlimited domains with unlimited bandwidth and disk space (or so they say). They've also got 24/7 customer service and they're VERY friendly to talk to if you've got any questions whatsoever.

I'm on bluehost and they've been doing well for me. You can also find coupon codes on the net to get the hosting for cheaper.

Looking at your needs though, Hostgator should do fine on a lower budget.

However, I highly recommend BlueHost (bluehost.com). You can't go wrong with it. I've been hosting my WP blogs on them without any hiccups for years. Support is top notch too.

HostMonster is also very good. They offer unlimited bandwidth and hosting space, and you can host as many domains as you want. They also offer your first domain free for life. Right now they have a promo going for $5.95 a month.

HostGator, BlueHost and HostNine work quite well.

Avoid Dreamhost. They've been known cancel accounts if you use popular WordPress plugins like All-in-One SEO because they call it a 'spam tool'.

Thanks for the suggestions you guys.

My concern with Hostgator and the likes though is this: They offer unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth with unlimited domains. This causes two problems.

    1) obviously offering unlimited at such a low price isn't possible so I suppose they have slower speeds.

    2) unlimited domains attracts people with 100's of low quality sites that would make google mark these servers down in the rankings.

What do you guys think about these statements?

      1) Add the plugin WP Super Cache to your blog and you shouldn't have a problem with loading time.

      2) Where a site ranks depends on the site itself - it needs good keywords, correct onsite optimization and backlinks. Seo in other words.

      They're both incorrect.

On #1, this isn't 2000, but 2010. Server load balancing and other server management techniques insure a rather stable and fast platform at a relatively low cost these days.

On #2, this isn't a consideration today given that shared hosting IP addresses may have 1000's of domains each. Google is smart enough not to apply this kind of blanket penalty.

    Hi there,
I use bluehost myself and they are incredible. Since I have been with them for like a yr now they have never had a down time. So this is my preferred hosting company. They are not as cheap as host gator but for the service they provide I am more than happy to buy hosting from them.

If you plan to have a few blogs I'd get a reseller account. Much easier to manage multiple sites.

JustHost gets my vote - use the code "50off" for 50% off ($40 for a full year with a free domain)
