Receive 40-60% Landing Page Conversion Rates --> One Change

Hey Warriors,

This one tip:

  • boosted my conversion rates to 40-60%
  • boosted my click through rates to 30%

Everyone says, double opt-in, double opt-in, it's almost like you HAVE to use double opt-in.

Well, it is better. Does create more response.

But what I don't like about it, is the procedure my prospect has to go through, going back to click a confirmation and then proceeding to either get another email or then go to the download page.

I know it seems stupid to us, but this is an annoying inconvenience to consumers, especially impulsive consumers .

So change the funnel a bit:

Single Opt-IN--> +
Thank you and Download--> +
Email and Send Second Piece of Informative Value-->
+
Confirm Opt-IN -->

You now have a double opt-in without the lost rate of confusion on the process.

For those that don't confirm you still have them on a Single List, and can try different emails to eventually get them to confirm.

I found that this works well and boosts conversions to new heights with use of Pay Per Click.

I'm testing a new theory and that is adding a

social media piece into the mix and will let you know the results as well.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

For the naysayyers, just test the above and you will see.

    Ok - very interesting. As long as only 1 or 2 "informative" emails go out this should work.

    I will give it a try and see if my results match yours.

    Thanks

      This defiantly seems like something that would be a good test. I have never thought about changing it up like that. I have always stuck with single opt in but I'm going to give your idea a try.

    Are you using aweber?

    Are you still able to capture the emails of the visitors who only single opt in but never click the double opt in confimation link?

    If so how?

    Thanks

        Well how do ya like that? It's confusing though...when you go to change the setting, it says "All subscribe methods require Confirmed Opt-In to ensure only recipients who have specifically requested to be on the list are subscribed." But then it lets you turn it off anyways...

          No, it doesn't. The button maybe showing OFF - but you can NOT turn on/off the double optin on a per list basis. It has been discussed in other threads, already.

          Once you had one list ON - all of them will have the double optin turned on.
          To test: try to sign up for that "turned off" list and see if it sends the 'confirmation required' or not. I tested and it did send, even if for one list I tried to turn it off...

            So if we have 4 lists... and turn 1 of their double optins OFF... all 4 will have their optins off?

            we cant have 2 of the lists with optins 'on' and 2 optins off?

              Nope. Once you have one turned ON... your will never be able to turn off any.

              At least I couldn't.

                Oh boo hoo! And here thought there was a simple solution.

                I believe Get Response went with that double optin too. Maybe a GR user can comment.

                What reliable AR companies will let us use single optin? Any suggestions?

                Actually I used to think this as well.

                The difference is that you MUST use THEIR opt-in form code in order to single opt-in.

                You cannot use any custom code for a form submit and fire off a subscribe to the list via any other method (email address, etc...)

                If you turn off double, I have been able to single opt-in with their form builder code.

                That being said, I am leaving Aweber like a banshee right now.

                The one thing they had in their favor was deliverability. Now that everyone who was on an Aweber list is getting 20 viagara spam messages a day, Aweber's deliverability and open statistics have gone into the toilet.

                Therefore, it's not worth it to tolerate their nonsensical double opt-in, spam nanny BS. They're so worried about spam complaints but failed to protect the one thing that gave them the right to be crybabies over their customers getting spam complaints.

                I was behind them at one point after the Aweber breach - but seeing how the deliverability and spam flagging has gone through the roof from my own stats, we're making alternate arrangements... probably pulling it in house.

    Hi LMC,

    A technical question: which AR lets you send the confirmation request AFTER the first (info) email?

    I am seriously considering moving from my present AR provider (an aweber clone) because I cannot move my buyers from the prospects list to customer list without forcing them to opt in again... so, I am interested in the technical background of setting up the sequence you described in the OP.

    Actually, I like very much the idea

    Thank you!

      Unless your autoresponder and shopping chart are an integrated solution (such as 1ShoppingCart, Infusion, etc), how could your autoresponder provider possibly know what user to transfer from the prospects list into the customer list without asking for that email via an opt-in box?

        Actually, I was experimenting with 2 methods to do this.

        Method #1. Using the paypal parser I add the buyer's paypal email to the customer list and I have an automation rule to unsubscribe them from the prospect list in the same time.
        It is not perfect, I know - and it works better in non-IM/MOO niches where people don't usually have tens of email addresses as we do.
        In the first msg I also told them they can change their settings (i.e. use another email) if they wanted.
        [I just copied this 'system' from others when they did the same with my paypal email...]

        Method #2. Here the "funnel" was subscribing to get a freebie > then offering an upsell/oto right there (or later in the AR sequence). On the paid product download page I offered a new optin form of the customer list telling them that
        a) they will be taken off from the other list
        b) offering free updates for the product
        Here I used the action-optin, so they are not taken away to another page. If they subscribe, the form just disappears and a friendly warning tells them to go to the inbox and confirm.

        Both methods work more or less as expected - although the biggest problem was always the confirmation. And in aweber and its clones you cannot switch on/off the double optin on a per list basis...

    You know I have been thinking about setting things up this way. I agree with you that people are very impulsive and want download now! Maybe I will try this out and let you know how I do with it.

    I'm a little confused..

    So I have my aweber settings to double opt in..

    Then I have them opt in and instead of sending them to a heres how to confirm your email page .. I send them to a thank you heres your download page instead.

    Then hopefully they confirm their email thereby double opting in?

    Is there any way to keep the 1st set of emails and mail to them?

    Or can I only send to the people who chose to double opt in after they downloaded free gift?

    I've been using Single Opt in Forever and it's totally fine as long as you created the list ethically by giving away a free quality gift, and you keep your messaging targeted, everyone is happy

    I have been using aWeber and making sure they get their download immediately.

    They optin - The Thank you page gives them the immediate link, also data on the double optin process.

    First email reminds them of how they opted in and gives them the download link again.

    I have been experimenting with iContact. They have a single optin - I send the person that opts in immediately to the download page. The first email is the same as what I do for aWeber.....I remind them of where they opted in at and give the down load link again.

    So far I have not had any problems with iContact. No Spam complaints. I like iContact's interface.
