Never personally done it but have you tried narrowing it down? Instead of saying, ages 18-25, texas, try something like, 18, texas, a place in texas, see if that helps.

          1) CTR greatly affects the suggested bid price.
          2) Try lowering your bid after 48 hours of 0.1% CTR or above. You will still get impressions and clicks.
          3) send traffic to a fan page with a squeeze page as the landing page (It is cheaper and converts better).
          4) Use super targeted ads (we are talking males, 30, Austin Texas, interested in hair loss) you will see a big price drop
          5) use sandwich pages instead of direct sales pages (I am converting at 5%)
          6) use striking images that clash with the Facebook background
          7) switch to cpm once you get an ad priced at 0.30 at cpc
          8) switch up the images if CTR drops below 0.1% for 24 hours

Hope that helps. Mobile marketing starts 0.03/click and I have gotten 1100 clicks in an hour for $50. Watch the sig video if you want to see just how effective it is.

          Good luck all.

I ran an FB test for a week using their variables and did not generate clicks. It would seem that since you are able to select a tightly focused demographic that clicks and conversions would be higher, but in my experience that was not the case.

Response is often based "horses for courses" so other products may do better. Testing is the key.

The IMAGE IS EVERYTHING in FB advertising!!! Whenever I do an ad I always split-test with 3 images. The more striking and out there the better, images of women do better, put the image upside down, whatever it takes!

Do not send clicks straight to affiliate products. You will go broke, plain and simple. Create a free report and squeeze page, the extra work will at least give you some names even if you don't get instant conversions.

Yes, I agree with this. You want you use all the image real estate possible. Even try using a portrait picture. It will be small, but it allow you to put text on the image (like a headline), so you have more possible impact that way.

Some of my results were better than others in my testing, of course, but overall, you need to make sure you have the right product aimed at the right audience. IM 101, I know, but I have learned that FB can be tricker than you think in that regard. Test, test, test.

Seems to me Facebook at large should convert no better than stumble or digg traffic. People are their to meet up with acquaintences, not click adds.

Now if their were a poplular facebook group on hyperhidrosis, then you'd have something.

And how do they do that?

          Through their ad system!

Meaning that people are clicking the links and the advertisers making money, because if they were not, nobody would be using them.

With that in mind, if you are using them and not making money, you are doing something wrong, the same with Adwords.

Uh, no. A lot of people use those ads to promote their fanpages or non-profit causes. Others use them to generate a buzz without trying to make a sale, for example Nissan uses them to promote the Leaf, which is not yet commercially available.

None of that means that people are making any money directly off that advertising in the same way that they might with Adwords.

Having said that, I am sure some people are making money with it. But the point was not that nobody is making money, but rather that the program's mere existence or even success (for Facebook) does not guarantee that. Furthermore, just because the program generates revenue doesn't mean that it's profitable even for them. As I understand it, Facebook still operates at a loss.

You can crush Facebook by paying per 1,000 impressions and submitting for a lot of categories. You can get costs as low as $.01/1000 impressions, which means if you get one click out of 1,000 impressions, you are paying at $.01/click. Anything over that amount of clicks, and it just keeps going down.

That's how to market facebook in a nutshell.

Facebook has a "quality score" calculation similar to Adwords. Many ads will start out $0.50+ and quickly drop if you CTR is good. I have several campaigns with 0.2% CTR that have gone from .75 to .15 after 200k impressions.

yes it can go upto 10 cents but it depends on geographical area. When i tried marketing something in India the CPC came down very low..

But problem with facebook is that you don't get targetted traffic ... or i must say that people are not in buying mood..

facebook is a social network where people get together and discuss games, music, tv shows, movies and current events. if you have any offer relating to those catergories, then it will convert.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1817863].message }}
    • Profile picture of the author Daniel Brock
It can convert if you take them out of the social element/mindset that they are in while they are on FB.

To do that, you create intermediate pages that warm them up before they hit your offer.

Straight out of FB to your offer will not only convert like crap, it probably won't ever get approved.

It also helps to drill down your targeted audience. Think keywords, relationship status, gender, location, etc.

    FB is awesome.

If you know how to use it though.

The estimates they give are almost 4-5 times the actual cost, so see the estimates, divide them by 5 and then set that as your CPC. Almost no effect on your CTR or anything.

CTR can be very bad. Like 0.1% or something if you are not using relevant images. (Hint Hint).

And the conversions suck too.. whether you send them to sales letters or squeeze pages. These people are there on your site for a reason, and the crux of that reason goes back to one or more of the seven vices. Know what those vices are... and you are set.

For example, marketing to the IM crowd, I wouldn't give them a free report in exchange of an email. I'd rather send them to a marketing quiz and give them instant results, and then send them to a squeeze page. Would the conversions suck? Yeah, maybe. But then once they are on that list, you are on. The onus of delivering value through content is no longer on you. You may now K.I.S.S. your people. ie. Build relationships with them. Send them videos... With content AND stories. Sell them stuff. Give them an idea and a way to implement that idea (would be your product). The plethora for new, sexy marketing is now open.

I'd say FB sucks a few months back, now I can't.

Facebook crushes. It's the most targeted PPC available for demographic. No, it's not active search intent like Google Adwords, but that's where you actually have to develop a real marketing approach to convert those people who "aren't into a buying mood" to active buyers.

No, you're not going to get a whole bunch of .10 cent clicks, but considering the level of demographic targeting and the ability to get in front of highly qualified prospects, it's super cheap for what you're getting.

Sounds like a targeting problem more than a failure of the medium.

You tried to sell a "how to start a business" product to people who said they were already in that business? And you got no interest? Hmmmmm...

Seems kind of like approaching a teachers' convention with a product on how to become a teacher.

If you wanted to try again, I can think of a couple of approaches off the top of my head...

      > The obvious one is to rework and reposition the product to focus on 'how to pull more profit from your detailing business with less work' or something along that line. Now you have something that could interest people already in the business.

      > The other thing that popped into my head was repositioning the product as a "how to add detailing to your current business" and target related vehicle businesses, like storage yards, small time traders who buy and recondition cars for sale, paint & body shops, etc.

You could also expand the idea to detailing cars, boats, RVs, etc.

Hope this gets the gears turning...

I think it is believable to get your per click cost down to 10 cents, I've come as close as 13 cents. The trick is don't use the CPC model use the CPM model. Then target your ad well and write good copy with a strong call to action. If you do this you should be able to get a pretty good CTR of around .08 percent (pretty good by facebook standards). The other thing you want to do is bid low on your CPM max, say around 5-7 cents below the suggested minimum. Don't go too low though, or your ads will be displayed in poor position causing you to rack up lots of unproductive impressions. You need to experiment and find a balance.

A few people have mentioned the Quility score and that is key to getting the lowest rates - you can do very will marketing on Facebook but be sure you have a testing budget - stay on top of things and keep optimizing new creative.

Also don't make any changes to running campains as it stops them dead in their tracks.

Make new line items and then turn off the older one once your new Ad is live.

Best of luck Facebook advertisers !

The key to getting cheap clicks is doing it on a CPM basis (instead of CPC) and crafting a catchy, attractive ad that sticks out like a sore thumb which also dovetails nicely with the demographic that you're targeting. If you're targeting the right demographic with the right ad, this will give you a high click through rate, and when combined with CPM will bring your cost per click down to an incredibly low level.
