I think the 'high traffic' will be likel due to being banded around forums, blogs and such like as it is SO 'poor' and funny. I'd be interested to see how much business they get through this site though.

I'm not so sure. You just gave them another backlink.

Here's an idea: Create the "worst marketing website ever" in a competitive niche. It'll be the biggest laugh all over the internet and in every marketing forum. Everyone will link to it and make fun of it.

Then after a year or two when it's a PR 5, you swap out the content, make it a super-optimized high conversion site, and watch it sit at the top of Google while it rakes in the profits.

'Out of this world'...? Well, they certainly must be from another planet.

I might try this tactic on all my sales pages. See if my conversions go up :-) They would have to find the buy now button first though which might take them about 20 minutes.

I think with sites like these, it would probably be easier to read the source code rather than the rendered pages.

The MIA one seems worse since it nearly gave me a seizure with those flashing lights.

Then again a lot of these sites probably looked cool when they were made. I remember my first web site (made in the mid-'90s) had scrolling text, bright colors, frames, and MIDI music. Super cool at the time, super gaudy today.

Yeah, I would say she has some sort of mental disorder. I am definitely NOT a webmaster, I am a writer, but geesh, I know enough about web content and site navigation to know that it was horrible. If what that person was aiming for was, a long time spent on the site, then she achieved it. Her customers (if she has any) will not be able to get beyond the home page. There is no clear message as to what exactly she sells. YIKES!!!

For what I can tell she put a lot of effort and dedication on it, nobody can come up with so many colors and banners and pictures and music, and words, and paint job, and shapes in one day...

A living proof that the time and effort you dedicate to any activity is not an indicator of how well you will perform.

It doesn't matter if you spend 18 hours in front of your computer working your ass off on your business, if you don't have a good idea of what you are doing and focused on a clear goal, then you will become the next Yvette's.

By the way, with a quad processor, 1 giga nvidia graphic card and a 29 LCD HD monitor the page doesn't look that bad..... (just kiddin' is awful

)

Consider the amount of traffic, and the number of backlinks, and then think about this: I for one am not marketing my wares to Internet Marketers who are web designers, etc but instead to the general public, people such as one might see around them in a Wal-Mart or some such.

Almost every page I've ever seen,on MySpace, and I mean almost ALL of them, look a lot like Yvette's--and now consider who her target really is. Young ladies seeking bridal stuff. Is it not a principle of copywriting to speak directly to your target?

Chances are good most of them use myspace or their friends do, and that that is exactly where their taste comes from.

So maybe there is something to her approach after all.

I am too sure the traffic is due to curiosity. Truly awful site and the music matches it. The only thing missing would be one of those horror movie screams.

I almost filled in the horror movie scream myself when I saw it. And heard it.

I've never actually wished I was colourblind till I clicked that. XD

...I was about to ask, what's their PR though, I was betting they were pretty good XD and lo and behold, a golden 4. XD

Did make me think of both Myspace and those Geocities sites from the late 90s

And sure, Myspace is a popular youth hangout but Facebook has a much cleaner look and look where all of those young 20 somethings are migrating to...

As I said earlier, it is probably easier to navigate the source code than it is her actual site.

If I find some time later I might trace her backlinks and see what everyone else has said about it. There has to be dozens of threads similar to this about it.

I'm actually tempted to ring there phone number on the site (if I can find one) and ask what 'the hell' they were thinking. Then offer to buy their site, a pr4, then change the content and maybe sell backlinks from the home page.

My eyes are seriously in some pain right now. Like one of the posts before, it reminds me of the Simpsons episode where a TV commercial causes seizures because of the flashing colours...yuck.

My head hurts!

One of my favourite sites is www.websitesthatsuck.com - I always refer to it when I'm teaching ICT.

Lots of excruciating and strange examples there (and good guide lines of what not to do).
