As Seen On: Bing, Google, Yahoo, Facebook.......

.... eh, am I the only one that finds this stupid and corny? I don't understand why anyone would want to put "as seen on" for a bunch of search engines... duh! Of course you saw them there, unless you visited the site with direct address bar entry, you found the site via search engine or forum or social site.

I get that they are probably trying to ride the coattails of that Google Cash "As Seen On blah blah blah" trend, but am I the only one who finds it pretty lame?

Or does it work so good for some reason, it's worth being corny?

Well I'm my opinion I guess that it tries to follow the same pattern:

    " As seen on t.v".

I've seen it in a lot of sales pages and if marketers are still including them on their marketing strategies I bet that it's useful in some way.

When I'm buying a product I hardly ever take this serius so I always ignore it.I'm not being "Inconciously Suggested" by google, bing and yahoo

  • It is 'social' proof. The same way if you talked with someone that you "just" saw doing an interview on t.v., you would think they were 'more' important, or that they had more valuable information to impart.

For someone who has never been exposed to that kind of marketing, the "as seen on ..." social proof lends credence to what they have to say. I.e., if a 'big' company like facebook allows them to promote on their site, then they 'must' be good...

It is social proof & as InternetSuccess001 said, many people have not been exposed to this type of marketing (to us IMers it's old hat). For those outside of the IM niche (or those brand new to it), they don't know it was "seen as" an AD. It's the credibility of those sites that gives whatever you're selling the boost. The thinking is: "It must be good if Google says so!"

Some marketers have gone even further to use "As Seen On" national television, news shows & well-known magazines if the topic being sold was ever discussed. That's taking it too far!
