Writing Attractive Titles and Meta Descriptions

I'm wondering what types of titles and meta descriptions people use to get people searching google to click on their sites. I have a number of sites on the first page, but they're not getting as many clicks as I'd like. I imagine it's partly that my title is just the keyword phrase and the meta description is kind of boring.

What kind of titles and meta descriptions do you like to use? Are there things you should avoid so as not to hurt SERPs?

they are ALWAYS keyword researched with Market Samurai/MNF..i seldom write random titles. I use keywords with high search volume, low competition to get best possible rankings beforehand.

The other tip is to include catchy phrases which indicate a solution for a problem, eg. if i were to make an acne site i would use something like "Get rid of your acne", things like that. Description usually 100 or so characters, not too short, not too long...main keyword always FIRST.

Keep Eye catching titles and descriptions so that people will click on your website among other ten results.

Put your best offer and uniqueness of the product or service in description. If you are providing some kind of guarantee or free product/service mention it in description. You will surely get some good amount of traffic.

  • Titles are very important. Afterall, getting ON page 1 is a HUGE goal for many people. But just getting onto page 1 for anything isn't actually the goal people have. It's a means to get visitors.

And visitors will go to your site or not depending on your title and description. So, they are vital.

Thank you for the responses. I changed one of my titles to have more words after the keyword, and I dropped to page two by doing that.

I guess I should just focus on making the description more attractive?

Using keywords suggested by Semrush.com and Keywordspy.com.

Title suggests 'solution of the specific problem'.

Sorry, Jaideep. I'm not sure I followed that exactly. Do you put the 'solution' right in your <title>? Where do you put those keywords suggested?

Try to make the meta description as entcing as possible, becuase if that is what gets shown , and you have a highly attractive meta description, you will get an increase in traffic without being in the actual number one position.

If you're getting on the first page of SERP's, don't worry about making attractive titles, the title is doing what it's supposed to. Make your descriptions better and you'll improve your click-through rate.

Use words and phrases that evoke desirable mental pictures. For example, for a resort owner describing a fishing lake, the phrase "teeming with trophy bass, walleye, and northern pike" is much more effective than "great fishing" is because it creates a desirable picture in the readers mind.

In other words, show your readers what you want them to know rather than telling them what you want them to know. Not sure of the difference?
Telling: My latest ebook sold 157 copies on the first day.

Showing: I couldn't believe my eyes as I scrolled down my order page. Sale after sale after sale! There were so many sales it took multiple pages to list them...157 sales in all. My biggest single day of sales ever!
Telling plants ideas but is boring. Showing gets the same ideas across but plants mental images in the reader's mind, which is more interesting and more effective.
