An amusing article in retrospective, and I'm sure whoever wrote it back then is embarrassed now. Here's the juiciest part that I'm sure many warriors will enjoy:

Then there's cyberbusiness. We're promised instant catalog shopping--just point and click for great deals. We'll order airline tickets over the network, make restaurant reservations and negotiate sales contracts. Stores will become obselete. So how come my local mall does more business in an afternoon than the entire Internet handles in a month? Even if there were a trustworthy way to send money over the Internet--which there isn't--the network is missing a most essential ingredient of capitalism: salespeople.

    There's a good marketing lesson - identify problems and then develop a solution.

    It's easy enough to sit back and criticize and gripe about why something isn't good enough. Anyone can do that.

    But only a few take the next step, to create a solution. (Trustworthy ways to send money. Creating affiliate programs. Being a good online salesperson. etc.)

    Poor Person 1 is off to gripe about something else. Rich Person 2 is off to create another solution.

    There was a critique (more like a satirical barb) on the article on NewsWeek itself...

    Stroll comes across as a cane waving grandpa in the article. I can't really blame him - most people in the print media still haven't understood the internet fully.
