What Kinda Landing Page Converts Best?

9 replies
Hey Warriors,

I have finally started my list building efforts, but now I'm stuck. What kinda landing page converts best?

The main aim of the landing page is to build niche leads and then sell a product to them in the near future.

I've seen Ryan Deiss's opt-in pages, the ones in which he uses a SitePal character on it. According to him, this one converts pretty well. Anyone with any experience using it?

How about the David DeAngelo one? Simple killer headline, couple of bullet points and then the opt in box.

Please help.

Thanks
Mark Richards

    I use a headline, followed by bullet points, then an opt-in box. All above the fold. I try to keep the LP's simple and make it super easy for the visitor to opt-in. Create your page with the mentality of "opt-in or leave" don't give the visitor any other options.

    Also, it should be noted that the landing page itself isn't the only factor to it's conversion ratio. The incentive you give the visitor effects your conversions. The traffic you send there, is it targeted? Are they presold? There are many factors that will effect the overall outcome. I suggest making one LP then tweaking it and split testing until you find a nice sweet spot.

    <Headline>

    Dear Friend:
    <Brief Introduction/Opening Paragraph>

    <Bullet Points w/ Benefits of why they should opt in>

    <Opt-In box>

    <Testimonials>

    <Opt-In box>

    That format usually gets me opt-in rates of 18%-35%
    (of course, you'll need to split test variations of everything
    to "hone in" on the winning combination, but that format has
    been very effective for me as far as optin % goes).

  • 1) Get a short video (3 minutes top) that's A) fast paced, B) engaging and C) promises to reveal a sexy piece of info (you must tickle your viewers curiosity).

    2) Then place an opt-in on the right of the video (people are used to this opt-in format, so they know they have to do).

    Don't over complicate the layout: simple works when it comes to squeeze pages. Make sure to make the video autoplay and that it engages your audience within the first 10 second.

    all of these and more.

    the answer is: it depends, on all kinds of things.

    like your audience, your offer (actually, the offer is probably more important than the precise design of the landing page), your niche, where the traffic comes from ... (example: when you're using PPC, then certain types of landing pages which in the eyes of Google don't offer enough value rule themselves out)

    so: keep it simple and test all of the above. I use google optimizer, but there may be better ways of testing this kind of stuff.

    Ryan Deiss sandwich strategy is nice too... (google it)

    I haven't tested the AUTOPLAY being more effective at increasing/decreasing conversions either, but personally, as a user, I prefer to press play myself at my own will.

      There is no one answer to your question.

      I have one opt in page that is the equivalent of a 4 page sales letter.

      I have another opt in page that has a graphical header and a 9 word
      headline above an ecover of the report with the opt in box below.

      Both are my 2 main lists.

      It isn't the length or the size or the shape or the format or any of that
      crap.

      It's the message...and always will be.
