Research and Research and still no answer, help about PLR websites please

Hey there warriors and warriettes,

Inspired by TommyGadgets "Make $100 in 2 hours thread" I built a site and put up for sale on 'that forum.'

I didn't make it public cause I dont' have the cohones he has, but that's not the point here.

What is the point is that I started to do a little on VRE and came across a post by Kate Anderson referring to selling a totally unique site, product, design etc, for a lot more than $100.00 even though the site is brand new and has no traffic or revenue stats.

I combined the two concepts and made a WP blog but also included with the sale an ebook and sales letter. I had actually begun working on this project several weeks ago with the intentions of keeping this niche site for myself, but... the more I started reading about VRE, the more I was thinking that that might just be something I'd like to use to make enough of an income to quit my dayjob. (I've been doing IM stuff for years and I have some good months and bad months, so I've stuck it out at the Just Over Broke place)... but back to the point.

Last night I was on the phone with my mentor unitl 1:30 am listening to her suggestions about building a niche site and selling it as a PLR site. Meaning I build it and then just hand over the files, and limit selling only 10-25 copies of the site.

She remembered that someone was doing this about a year or so ago, and actually doing quite well with it. But she couldn't remember the persons name. So I've spent the better part of the day searching out "Selling PLR websites" right here on the forum, and I really haven't come up with a whole lot of info.

Can anyone tell me if this is still a popular type of product to sell? I've seen a few 'ready made review sites' so I'm thinking that's a 'thought,' but I could really use some feedback on this.

Do you want to sell PLR websites?

I mean they aren't installed yet. Still on a Zip file for distribution. Which includes pre-written articles with them?

Check out nikola, search for his post. I think he can help you.

As for the popularity of selling PLR websites I think there is still a market for this, although I don't have statistical data for reference.

Try to google "adsense minisite" these are usually pre-built niche websites for sale although focusing on adsense for monetization.

Omar, yep.. exactly, a zip file, but like you side, not for adsense though.

Paul, thank you. The duplicate content issue was what I was thinking about.

    Thanks guys.

Don't take this as gospel because it's just a thought (and I hadn't really thought about it at all until I read your post thirty seconds ago!), but unless Googlebots are cleverer than I thought, then they have no idea which bit of your page is article and which bit is the rest (sidebar content etc), so they have to take the whole page into account when deciding how unique it is, and not just the article.

So... your PLR sites will always be a bit different from everyone else's, and if you were to offer (for example) ten articles you could take them from a random pool of thirty and your sites would be different from each other too (at least for SEO purposes), especially if you changed the article titles each time.

If I'm wrong about Googlebots and they are bright enough just to read the articles and skip the rest, they can quit dossing around surfing and get round here and do my ironing for me

For what it's worth, I used to sell PLR sites and never had any trouble with them. I only stopped because for some reason, buyers prefer RSS fed sites. I'm actually thinking of switching back to PLR again because I preferred it. Although (you're making me think here - stop it!) I don't see why you couldn't combine the two, thereby adding a bit more 'uniqueness' to your PLR sites.

Marcus, you want to get a hold of John Rhodes. He's probably the guy
you're talking about who did this. He is really big into PLR and knows all
      the tricks.

      He is a member here.

Astracadia, ok, you just made me think, so much in fact that it made my head spin a bit and I still don't have a grip on what you mean. I dont' want to fill up a site with PLR material.. I want to create a site, all same material, same content, same product, same sales letter, and sell x amount of copies...

So if I sold ten copies, I would need 100 articles, and each buyer getting a different set of 10?

        ugh.. my head

        Steve,
Thanks man. I'll have a look for John Rhodes next.

UPDATE:.... RSS fed sites? hmmmm..... do you think that ten copies of the same WP blog would actually sell?

I feel a poll question coming on.

I think the most I've ever sold (of an identical site) is four. I'm always keen to let buyers know that they're something to build on though, to adapt and make their own, so two of them looked nothing like what they did at the point of sale last time I saw them. Including a pdf or something explaining how to make these changes (and mentioning in your sales material that you'll be doing this) helps a lot.

I did this for awhile 2-3 years ago. I called them "TurnKey Profit Sites". I'd create a nice layout/design, write 10, 15, or 20 articles on the topic, put 2-3 monetization streams in (Adsense, chitika, clickbank, posters), then sell them to multiple people. Can't remember exactly but I think I limited to ~50 of each.

I also had it set up to use a configuration file. This meant the buyers only had to change a few lines in one file, and all their affiliate IDs were updated. Everything was designed with PHP includes as well, so editing the navigation bar/footer/header/etc was quick and simple too.

In any case, they were really popular and to this day I still come across a few of them. Still online, still generating traffic, still generating income

Marcus, thanks for this post. I have been selling only plr articles and reports but never sold a plr website in my life. So I am also interested in knowing the answer to your question.
