How to start an affiliate program?

Hello Warriors,

I was just asked by someone what are the steps to starting an affiliate program? If I were to do it for him, what would the steps be? It is a skin care company and what would be a reasonable amount to charge to set it up for him? Thanks!

Who's the payment processor?
How are they currently tracking/managing transactions?

hi robin,
generally you wanna setup a script that pays affiliates like 45-75% for every sale they make. click bank shows you exactly what you need to do to setup any website as an affiliate site to promote with them. cheers!

That question really depends on a lot of factors robin. such as what is the quality of the product, quantity etc. so really no way of ballparking that without more info.

Thanks, all, for the info.

To give you more info:
It's an organic cosmetic company with about 150 products.
I am not really sure how they go about their payments, but I know their products are being sold in a few Whole Foods but primarily are online on their site. They also have companies that distribute their products for them.

I love their products and really want to promote them while making a living myself.

Would it be a good idea to go to Commission Junction to set it up there?

Before you will enter any affiliate network, please read their conditions in detail! I would recommend you first to try inhouse affiliate program (not just because we sell such applications, but it is cheaper solution in long term)

I forgot to mention:
if you don't know how to start affiliate program, try to find any good affiliate manager, which will help you with it at the beginning. It will cost you something, but it is worth of the money

I have one word RAP! I love this affiliate management program. You don't need to join any places like CB or CJ to sell products.

It even allows customers to become affiliates automatically. Very easy and pretty robust system and priced just right.

Clickbank is one of the solutions. There are other solutions that can get affiliated. Yesterday I bought a CD about. I will study and I will return with more thorough details

if none of the well known affiliate networks doesn't allow you to enter, build your own in-house affiliate program.
