Don't know about you all, but I HATE these people..

There are people all over the world who SPAM others to sell products that these people don't want.

I am talking about people that buy huge lists of emails and SPAM others to make a quick buck.

This has made us,the legitimate internet marketers, look bad here who do email marketing. Email marketing that people have AGREED to subscribe to OUR newsletters.

So I hate these poeple who make us look bad.

When will this stop? I think that NEVER. They will continue to do so as long as they want which is really bad.

Tal

Like anything in life, there are always going to be rotten apples in a barrel. It sucks but sometimes that's just life.

Regarding Paul's comment about regulating specifically the IM industry, I sincerely doubt it mostly because IMers are all over the entire globe. Personally, I sell information products and software so I doubt I would be affected from regulation but it still doesn't give any one the right to scam another.

    Thanks for the thread!

I can see where you are coming from, Tal. This probably does not apply specifically in this business, but everyone who belongs to a minority group.

Internet Marketing still belongs to a minority group - it's a big minority of those who have home businesses, but as a whole businesses, it's still a small percentage.

I am a member of a racial minority in the U.S. I am Asian. When I see news that another Asian commits a crime, I worry about what it can affect me as an Asian. Luckily overall Asian people are considered to be a good group of people. But it takes just one mishap to give us bad names, and I am afraid as long as you belong to a group, whether you would like it or not, we will encounter and have to deal with the damages these mishaps cause us (remember school shooting at Virginia Tech?).

The only thing we can do is to be a good business person - refunding money if it's applicable to our terms and conditions, take off an email address if we receive an opt-out request, and so on. That will put us ahead of those who don't play by rules, and soon enough, they will be out of business (if not, we can file a complaint on ftc.gov or ic3.gov).

Usually common sense will do a lot of the work, but people with common sense like us are becoming a minority as well.

We already have too many regulations- it's time to start repealing some.

It's also about time to start treating our visitors the same way we would like to be treated as customers ourselves.

Yes, our industry is fairly young, but in the few short years IM has been around, our customers have wised up considerably.

Profitable websites are starting to become much like favorite coffee shops or corner stores. Visitors go to their favorite websites time and time again and are much more open to buying from these websites.

Optimizing websites for search engine robots is great as this gives more exposure and better rankings, but I prefer to optimize my websites for my human visitors - these are the visitors putting money in my pocket.

Building trust with your visitors is the best way to ensure ongoing, repeat business and create a sustainable business.

Spam is not something I enjoy getting, so it's not something I would ever do to my visitors. I respect my business, so I respect my customers. My customers know I respect them and that makes them much more open to giving me more and more business.
