Seo Question About URLs

When setting upi your directory structure for a new website, does it harm you in any way if your pages are thre or four levels deep in your URL?

http://www.yoursite.com/articles/category/weight_loss/new/text.html

    In theoory, the closer to the root, the better. In the example above, drop the "articles" directory, unless you really need it.

    Having said this, I doubt it has a big effect on SEO and wouldn't worry about it all that much.

    It makes a difference but not a huge one.

    I would worry about more important things like:
    Are your keywords in your domain?
    Are your keywords in your file name (i.e. keywords.html)?
    Are your keywords in your title tags?
    Are your keywords scattered throughout your page?
    Are your keywords in the link text of numerous links pointing to your page?

    Do all of things perfectly and then worry about your directory structure.
