You can't really buy an email list that will return....

However you can buy a direct marketing list and promote to convert them into a mailing list.

Your looking at at a decent expense. However, your list will work for you for years so I have always looked at it at a long term perspective.

I recommend Welcome to Salesgenie.com® - We Put You in the Lead , used them to build an offline business list of business's without a website, and saw a 2% conversion to my contacts.

Your better to invest the money in building up a squeeze page and writing articles and linking to the squeeze page. Give away something free, provide value and then you have a good list.

The money is only in the list if you provide quality content, giveaway free products and information...basically overdeliver.

Appear as the expert. Buying a list you could be getting people who receive hundreds of emails a day...not the way to go in my opinion..

    E-supreme,

ON the contrary, a lot of people don't test buying REAL mailing lists.

There are a lot of these renting companies for getting cheap lists, etc, but I invested $1,000 into a true list of business's down to my key demographic.

I invested $500 into the creation and printing of a brochure flyer.

    I invested into the mailing.

I had a high end product (web development), and saw 2%.

    We did well.

So lists do work, its all in how you target and use them once you got them.

The difference is when you buy a list, you don't have a 2,000 person list to send offers to.

You have a crowded room that you have to shout over or some how get their attention to funnel them out the exit door and into your wallet.

Yeah well seems like the right way to do it. You obviously knew exactly what you were at.

Most people look at it as getting a 100k list...email them and then think at worst they will get a 1% conversion and be rich. To be honest I have never rented a list, I just know there are a lot of companies out there that you could be wasting your time with if you went down that route.

i know creating my own list better than buying it!
I don't have have the energy and time building a list by giving away some stuff for free!
All my lists are buyer list and I'm working to improve them!
but i can't start working from the begging to build a list at weight loss niche or skin care and so on!
so buy a new HOT list better and i work to convert them to my real members!
i think this strategy will have a good return!

Consider a moment that any list you buy will have quite a few false or dead emails. There are lead generation companies but even then those that are truly making a killing are doing so by building their own lists. I would suggest that if time is a problem go to rentacoder, elance, etc. and get a good writer and programmer to build you what you need. That way you can focus on marketing and getting fresh eyes to your content. And giving something away for free is always good.

When you say "a mailing list" do you mean an email list or a list of names and addresses you can send snail mail to?
