What's appropriate? How should I ask? (Product Testimonials Needed)

I need to get some testimonials for a new product package. I PMed a few people who I respect here on the board asking if they would be willing to give me an honest opinion on my products, but then I thought there might be a rule against sending multiple PM's.

What's the policy? What is the best way to get testimonials?

    Kevin,

    I don't know what the BEST way is - but one way you could do it is how I am doing it right now - see sig.

    This also gives you the ability to weed out the freebie-seekers by replying with questions, or looking at their online rep. You still maintain control.

    To my knowledge, there is no official policy, but sending PM's to select people sounds perfectly fine as long as they're not promotional in nature.

    An example of a promotional PM would be a 50% offer in return for a testimonial.

    FYI: Running a WSO would also work (and give you very good pre-launch exposure and hype).

      WSO Newbie question - you can run WSO's for products that aren't officially "life" yet?

      I ask because I've been wanting feedback on a new project of mine and learnt on the weekend you can't ask for feedback via posting a thread so I've been trying to figure out other ways to get the help I need. I've looked through the WSO's and they are all 'sales pitches' of sorts.

        Good question. You can run a WSO for paid products, free products, testimonials, list building...anything as long as it's your product and not some PLR you're reselling.

        The War Room is also a GREAT place to get feedback and leads by offering something for free.

            Wow...about time. Good info to know. I wrote about the War Room and optins many months ago but the thread was deleted.

        Melani, there are several ways you can approach this. You can post the WSO and decide if you want to offer out x amount of review copies to the first few who ask - but there may not be a guarantee that those people come back and post on your thread. Of course, if they ask for a copy on your thread and never come back to report, they are the ones who may not look good.

        Also, I see you have 3 friends here - you could hit them up.

          My problem is it's not so much a 'physical' product... it's not an ebook or training program etc. So it's hard to give away a review copy which is where I'm getting unstuck.

              The best way is to give me a copy.... okay I'm joking about that.

              I don't think there is anything wrong with what you've already done. I am releasing my newest product in April, and I intend to ask specific people ( not just on the forum but elsewhere) whose opinion I already respect.

              If I just posted for testimonials, I would get a lot of requests from people who are just looking for free stuff.

    You could offer the product for free in the War Room in return for honest reviews. But if you want to maintain your credibility, you should have the reviewers post their experience in the thread; good, bad, or ugly.
