I strongly suggest you build a list.

Otherwise, you're just sending all your traffic to the vendor's page. You'll never again see that traffic. You have no way of building a relationship with them (which helps to close sales). You can't follow up with them.

See, it's much easier to sell to "warm" leads than "cold" prospects. All of your traffic is cold because they don't know you and they don't know the vendor.

Get them on a list first, warm them up and THEN send them to the vendor's page. You may even "add value" to the offer by giving prospects a bonus if they buy from you. For example, you can offer a free low-calorie recipe book to anyone who purchases the main product through your link.

This is especially important since you're working in a competitive market.

    ***

Beyond that, without actually analyzing your keywords, the traffic (to see if it's targeted), the articles, the sales copy and every other part of the sales process, it's hard to say what went wrong.

    Cheers,
    Becky

Wow, that is some serious action taking.

I agree with the list building, but it shouldn't take that much work to see your first sale.

How many products are you promoting?

Crap, if your content is decent you'd be better off selling content creation services.

Without seeing what your pages/videos/etc actually look like, I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Yes! Let me just add my congrats and backpats for taking action. That alone puts you ahead of a lot of people who just "dabble" in IM. Keep taking action (tweaking that action so that it's the right action) and you will see results.

Visitors are between 50 - 150 per day.
Try getting 50-150 visitors a day on 1 domain. Don't forget a typical conversion is 1-2%

1 or 2 sales per 100 visitors, you are getting 50-150 spread over 20 spaces.

      Just a thought,

I would setup a domain and start building a list, and drive traffic form all the other sources to 1 domain... it would give that domain 20 backlinks, some link juice, traffic...

    Here's what I'd do:

Do Pay-Per-Lead instead of Pay-Per-Sale .. and focus on PPC. As you can see from your own efforts, trying to do SEO/FREE traffic is for mugs and a sale is much harder to achieve than getting a lead. Maybe change your whole approach to IM?

I do agree with R Hagel. You should get a list of some sort. Send them out information about the products but don't hard sell them, you soft sell them.. how this program or ebooks helps you or others, what you learn from the book, etc.

follow up with seven emails with links that go to the vendor sites in each mail.

    Hopes that help

Congrats on taking action...nicely done and don't get discouraged.

Besides what has already been said, list building, and that seems to be the consensus, I would recommend targeting more than three keywords.

I personally get together 80-100 keywords and write a high quality article for each(great info, 500-600 words). I look for keywords with around 1-2k searches per month, no more than 30-40k results in a google search.

I am in no way an IM expert, but this is just something I do myself.

    Hope it helps

      Hi,

It is great that you are getting targeted traffic.Traffic doesn't mean money. How people interact with your page is the important thing.I think the problem lies in the landing page. You have to "pre sell" your visitors before sending them to the vendor's page.

Test different types of pre selling methods.I am sure you can succeed because you have one quality that most newbies don't have "Take consistent action".

      Good Luck

Maybe your keywords are not targeted at all? Say if you promote a weight loss ebook, and your keywords are like "how to lose water weight", you might need them closer to your product. Those too generic keywords are good as well, but they are better when you have covered all the "buyers" keywords, are making sales on those, and want to expand.

I will say that I have had very little success in the weight loss niche using primarily article marketing to drive traffic. I'm sure some people do very well with it, but it never worked out for me.

Maybe you could post a link to one of your sites so we can read your copy?

The issue here is the niche you picked the weight loss niche is used by thousands and there are so many products and services out there for it it is just nuts. Your chances of pushing a sale in it from what you see are slim to non. I would really recommend a different niche one that is not so over saturated.

However as stated above with all that traffic if you are not capturing your visitors information via list building your throwing money out the window. If you need help setting up just shot me over a PM

      Couple of things:

#1 - The niche you chose is a really tough one. Way too competitive right now (in my opinion)

#2 - This happens to all of us - not all of our products "take off" - I am happy with most of my niche sites to make 1 - 2 sales a week, as long as I am also getting some good opt-ins from the site.

#3 - While I commend you for what you have done, take it as a learning lesson - when going in - spend around 1 - 3 weeks getting up and running - building some back links etc - as traffic starts to flow if we are not getting sales - we need to tweak some things - our headlines, graphics, sales copy, etc - try everything - if traffic continues to come in and you have no sales you have to decide - do I want to continue to spend time on this or move on.

#4 - When choosing a niche to enter - take a hard strong look at the competition - while we want a competitive niche that people are spending money in - we also want one where we can grab a piece of it. There are a few niches that that is really tough to do right now.

Take a look at a product called market samurai - it gives you a good idea of not only the size of the market but the competitive environment as well

congrats on taking action.... thats the biggest issue... everyone talks about doing it but few actually do anything.

if you're sending traffic and getting no sales one of 2 problems...

    1. your traffic sucks
    2. the offer sucks with your traffic.

if your traffic sucks, maybe your keyword research is the problem.... maybe the way you're getting ppl to visit the vendors site is an issue.

if the offer sucks with your traffic i suggest rotating offers in that niche... see which one converts best first THEN focus all of your traffic on it.

oh and build a list, that goes without saying.

I promote that product and it converts badly for me. 1 sale in every 1000 hops if I'm lucky. On your traffic average of 100/day, an estimated ctr of 10% and sticking a wet finger in the air I would expect one sale every 100 days or 3 - 4 sales per year.

But that's my experience. My solution was to select more products and more niches to promote. Some of them do much better.

Just wondering ... what on earth made you choose such a high gravity product to start on?!
That sounds like advice I should be taking. Thanks Alexa.

Maybe he thought that high gravity meant good product to promote. I think that it's a common misconception.

I really don't like the name of the product. Kind of like being a fat idiot. Maybe it works for others, but I would probably hesitate to buy it, or even care reading about it.

    Fantastic effort. congrats.

I agree with building a list, but in this case, evidently your copy/review/landing page/articles are not causing the visitor to take the next step. why would it be any different with the autoresponder mails that you send them?

If it was me, I would just take out all the fat loss links . CPA in the diet (rebills) niche might not be the best idea right now.

I would just add adsense. Adding adsense, with the kind of traffic you are seeing, will generate a few dollars everyday and that will give you the energy and hope to keep going.

If you have optimized the page for the fat loss product, you might find some of the adsense advertisers on your page to be promoting the same product. You can then just watch, learn and implement whatever they are doing right.

Great effort.....Taking quick action is quite important to get success. I think you can make few sales with this work when you choose the another micro niche. Weight loss is highly saturates and competitive niche.

Less competitive and high demanded niche and targeted keywords are very important in the process of affiliate marketing.

Here are few niches to make fast cash:

    1.Men's related health products
    2.Women related...
    3.Pregnancy
    4.Parenting and family
    5.green products
    6.Power generation products.
    7.Self help and motivation
    8.Marriage
    9.sports and equipment
    10.Body building...

Here are some free tools below that should help to target your niche more

      1. Quantcast - Home use this site to target your demographics for your offer. Enter in the ulr of your offer with out the http://

2.http://google.com/adplanner this is almost the same as quantcast but google's version of it, you can also enter your keywords and it will give you some good info.

3.http://www.google.com/insights/search/# this is also google's tool, enter your keyword or keywords into this tool it will then give you related searches and trends for that keyword, also another cool feature is it shows you the up and coming searches.

4.Detecting Online Commercial Intention: Audience Intelligence: adCenter Labs this is microsoft's commercial intent tool, put in your keywords into this to detect the commercial intent of that keyword. This tool might not be a 100% accurate but you have a better chance of making more sales with a higher commercial intent.

Now I want to congratulate you for taking action that is step #1

You are getting traffic to your site so this is good, but the next thing is how targeted is your traffic?

Another thing is you did not tell us the keywords that you selected and also did not show your landing page that you used.

These things do play a major roll

well hope this helps, I say keep trying and do not give up, move on to some new keywords check out those tools and then if still no sales...then move on to another product.

Another thing I wanted to add is yes building a list is key too but I have made sales with out building a list.

I just wish I had captured their emails because these people bought from me once so they would most likely buy from me again and a buyers list is gold.

      hope this helps
      -Chris

the gravity is important.... some sites are just setup to work with warm traffic, most don't convert on cold traffic...

    # of sales by affiliate is important as well.

i think the offer just may not convert to the traffic you are sending.... rotate the offer to something else in the niche and see.

Hi, I would also suggest getting your own website. If you're not comfortable building your own landing page, you can at least use a redirect script like this one:

PHP Redirect - Redirect Script - Redirect Web Page

Then it will be easy for you to change the product you're promoting if the current one doesn't work out. You'll just change the script to redirect to another hop-link.

    - Also, if you're using free methods for promoting, it can sometimes take weeks for your pages to find proper ranking. So keep pushing different products w/ the same method, and keep track of where your sales are coming from, so that you can repeat your successes.

Very impressed by your work ethic and frankly seems like you are due some money!

You've obviously got a method for generating traffic and given your quoted sources the quality shouldn't be an issue.

As has been said try some different offers and while I prefer to concentrate my efforts you might be better trying a couple of niches (just don't go crazy and start working in 10 or 20) sometimes it's hard to get traction in a certain niche with a certain product.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1850353].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author NikkiG
Yes and to make life easier consider buying some .info domains and using redirects so you can change your destination quickly and easily.

In the meantime if you steer clear of direct search engine rankings to your money sites then it won't matter much what domain you use and how you link.

That way all your articles can be flipped to another vendor, test the conversions and keep working at it.

Would it be possible for us to see some of your writing?

You seem to be doing everything write on a technical basis, but the real trick to affiliate marketing is the presell.

You are getting tonnes of clickthroughs, and I'd be surprised if that particular product has a low conversion rate. In fact I have heard the opposite, that it converts very well.

So, my question is what is the state of mind people are in when they click through to the site?

Getting traffic & hops is only part of the battle. Getting visitors to care is the part that really makes you money.

If your writing gives readers a reason to care about what they are going to and sparks their curiosity, then you have a much better chance that they will engage when they get to the sales page. From there the sales page can do it's job.

If the articles lead them to click through for some other reason, and when they arrive at the sales page they are not all that interested, that could be the reason for your lack of sales.

Again though, this is not something that can be assessed until we can see some examples of the writing you've been putting up.

Even the best sales pages really need warm leads to meet their potential. I would take a moment to consider how much you are warming up the leads you are sending.

If you can post some links we might be able to give some feedback.

You know what is interesting about Fat Loss 4 Idiots. They know how to sell an affiliate to sell their product. They tell you in their affiliate material the big secret. According to them you dont have to promote the product. In fact their top affiliates (according to them) write about OTHER things that interest women in a certain age bracket and JUST happen to have the Fat Loss 4 Idiots banner on their site.

And these women just click on that banner and get sold on the program through their multiple page sales site. And then you collect a whopping pay check cus the pay out is so sweet which is why so many people promote it.

Well that sounds good doesnt it. So I popped that puppy on a dozen or so sites....and waited for the sales to roll in with the traffic I was driving to it. No matter the niche I popped that sucker on there. (So long as it would appeal to women in the suggested target age bracket.)

And you know what I got about 5 or 6 sales.

Well let me ask you something. Do you know anyone who has lost weight with Fat Loss 4 Idiots? And have you used the program and do you like it?

The thing is there is so much competition for Fat Loss 4 Idiots that I think you really need some passion there.

And do you understand their weight loss plan? Know it upside down? Because you need to in order to sell it.

I moved on to more delicious weight loss plans
