What would happen to your Blogspot Domain and Traffic if Google someday scraps Blogger ??

Just curious. All my Blogs except one have own personal domain. The one that is not is a blogspot. Theoretically what would happen if by some small chance Google would discontinue Blogger ?? Would you lose all that Traffic that you have built up for years based on that blogspot domain ??

I guess this is why many should fork out $10 a year to actually own their Domain.

Plus, want if you wanted to sell your Site ?? I guess you cant with a blogspot domain ??

Do these IMers who have built up huge followings and Traffic over the years based on the fact of pushing the theme of "hey look at me I can make a lot of money with just a free average looking Blogger so can you " realize the potential consequences ??

Or do you think this is a little bit overblown ??

    What happens? Probably the same thing that would happen if your host went under on those personal domain sites of yours ... but I'd be willing to bet that Google / Blogspot are far less likely to disappear than your host.

    Truthfully, in all reality, probably neither would ever happen.

    And I don't know about Blogspot's terms of service, but I'd be willing to bet that you could sell your blog with them.

      Not exactly the same thing. If your host goes down, you can change to another hosting service and and move your blog there. Same domain, same blog, just a different host. It is of course imperative that you always keep a back-up of your blog.

      I don't think Google is going down anytime soon either but I think if one is working so hard at building traffic and all, then why not drive it to one's own domain and have full control.

    I posted about the insanity of this on my blog. You are nuts leaving it up to third party providers.

    Keep your own assets under control where possible and use third party providers to enhance it not own it.

    I notice Blogrox appears to have gone. If you had a blog there you don't have one now.

      Schramko, you nearly took the words right out of my mouth !! I was thinking more on the terms of catastrophic and devastating for many if something like this happened !!
      I know many peeps who have built up blogspots and are making a killing being an Authority Site. They base their popularity on the fact that they could make a killing using just a ugly free blogger blog. And market this theme in of itself to become wildly popular.

      ALL you guys need to check out Grizzley at How to Make Money Online for Beginners

      He has 7 blogspots among dozens and dozens of other sites and after about 1.5 years he just topped $100 a day on each of these 7 Blogspots for just Adsense alone. Some damn good stuff in the Archives. Absolutely priceless stuff.
      But I just wonder about whether it was prudent of him to NOT switch to a personal domain ??

        I moved my blogger stuff over to my own domain two years ago after hearing about accounts being removed for no reason. It might seem attractive to have a house on the beach but eventually.....

      What are you talking about ?? Where did you hear that you can't use Blogger Blog for Adsense ?? This is one of googles important Revenue models for making money and they are one of the same.

      This is crazy !! Can anyone else confirm this ??

    Google scraping blogger is like saying Google is going to scrape Youtube. I doubt they are simply going to "dump" a site which they paid $10 million bucks for...

        I just created a new channel with a blogspot address and it worked fine. No error. All my blogger blogs are showing ads correctly and everything looks normal.

        If they didn't want Adsense ads on their blogs they wouldn't have an Adsense gadget! It doesn't make sense.

        Believe me it would be easy for them to remove these gadgets from all blogs or stop showing ads but I don't see any evidence of it.

        Besides, Google Sites is different to Blogger. Google Sites is their shared website project for creating linked websites and intranets. Of course they dont' want ads on these websites - but that still has nothing to do with Blogger.

    Simple! Start your own blogger or website. Never allow any sort of limitation to stand in your way. Go get your way or make one if you have to. If you are a good writer, you could also consider doing compositions or writing for people or businesses... There are many opportunities out there, u just have to open your eyes wider. U can!
