Video on Sales Page - What do you think?

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering what other warriors think of putting videos on sales pages.

Are they more of a distraction or does this help engage the customer a little more?

If they do help are long videos better than short ones?

I am looking into ways of making my sales page more attractive and increasing the elusive sell through rate but not sure if this is soemthing I should be focusing on over tweaking sales copy for instance.

Love to hear your feedback!

Personally I don't like to use them much but videos are reportedly brining in some very high conversions..especially those squeeze pages with long videos, no controls, and nowhere to go until the end of the video. Those are all the rage right now and love them or hate them they seem to work.

As for long and short, just like sales pages there are people on both sides of that argument.

In my experience long copy outperforms short and if I was going to bet on a video I'd say the same.

Look at what the big guys are doing, the recent launches. I've found two things work well.

    1. Copy the big marketers.
    2. Do the exact opposite of the big marketers.

It's a little crazy but works for me. I either have to follow them pretty close like a recipe or do the exact opposite.

In between doesn't seem to cut it.

Videos, according to the testing by some IM gurus, can increase sales because it do appeal to those who're lazy to read (your sales copy).

What you have to remember is to not let your video to auto-play because a lot of people will just get off your site immediately (according to StomperNet's A/B testing to their sales pages). So, let your visitors choose whether or not they want to watch your videos.

Shorter, powerful videos are always better than long, non-focus videos. But, if you can make your long videos interesting, then, why not...? I myself believe in the 10 minute rule though, as in 10 minutes is the maximum you can go. It works on Youtube, works on TV shows/series (10 minutes of show before the ads), and it sure will work for us.

    Thanks for the tips.

Interesting the idea of extremes NikkiG ... I see some truth in that. Nothing done half assed gets the same results as something pushed to the limit hehe.

People are now conditioned to enjoy videos, thank YouTube and others for this, and thus, they are proving to be very effective.

In this day and age, videos have been proven to convert higher.

Most top gurus I know ALL use videos on their sales page. And after much testing
myself, I learned that videos add a nice punch to the sales page.

I think videos work good they tell more of the story and explain what it is you are offering better than words on a page can. I know when I watch videos on other people pages I get pulled in and listen to what they have to say I've even bought a lot of products myself this way.

Just as in a regular sales page, the content of your video can make or break a good sales page. I've done some split testing where I'll use the same exact sales page, w/ 2 different videos, and come up w/ dramatically different results. So just as good copyrighting and split testing is good for the written page, quality video production, and split testing are also important when it comes to video sales pages.

I'm taking a break from working on my video right now. This is my first one and I'm trying to figure out how to edit it.

The first go was about 4 minutes and it felt long to me. I'm trying to get it down to 3 minutes. I have it near the top of the page with some selling points in bullet form to the left of the video. My sales letter is below.

I should start testing it next week.

I'm working on some new things. So, nothing to promote just yet.
