Using other company names in your product title

I see a lot of products about Google, Facebook, Twitter, Farmville, etc. that all use company names in their title like "Farmville Secrets". Do you think these folks get permission to do use the company names or is this ok to do without permission legally? Thanks in advance.

No, in most cases it is not ok, however, many of them don't have the time of day to go after every single person that is using there name. Although, they are in a way, promoting them. So I don't know if they would want to. I do know that Google when after a bunch of people just recently about using there name in products.

It's an extra publicity for original company. Isn't it?

They will find eventually that they will be contacted especially if the name is registered trademark so all their efforts will be to nothing.

I think there is no problem so long as the product or service promotes the brand.

No .... it's not Ok. As pointed out, the company can sue you or send a cease and desist. Just because you see people getting away with it, does not mean that it's ok and that you will get away with it.

I would def say NO to this idea. I believe there was a post in this very same forum about how Google recently went after websites using their trademarked names including adwords and adsense.

Couple this with the new FTC regulations and you can understand the possiblity of how even the biggest companies could take notice of the smallest operation that they feel is in violation of their trademark.
