Need Advice on Personal Branding: Have You Heard of 'Lana the Piranha'?

I'm developing a personal brand and online presence for a client that is in network marketing. Our ultimate purpose is to recruit people to join her downline. We want to create a brand around a nickname she got when working in the corporate world, that is 'Lana the Piranha' . It was a name given for her persistence, never giving up, assertiveness, etc. in a positive light and not for being anything negative like back-stabbing, deceitful, etc.

I think it has a catchy ring to it and could symbolize and attract people to working with someone who is powerful, persevering, persuasive, etc.

What do you guys think? We what to get people's attention, build her personal brand but not turn them off in the process...

thanks!

John

I like it. It certainly has a nice ring to it ... HOWEVER, you know how much resources it takes to create a brand, right? You gotta start small, but the most important part of your business at this stage will be your structure, not the brand name. But I like it, and I guess others too. Great job!

Think of it from the prospective recruits point of view. If she was introduced to me as "Lana the piranha" I would be afraid to even meet her for fear that she would be so persistent that I would sign up just to get rid of her. Then I'd phone HQ and cancel my contract as soon as she closed the door as she was leaving. "Lana the Piranha" is a good brand to have with your peers or competition but I bet it won't score any points with prospects who are afraid of being "sold".

I think you'll find this article I read just this morning very insightful.
It's by my friend, Raj Setty, on Tom Peters' blog.

    Ryan700: thanks for your insights.

I agree that it would be accepted among peers as it was indeed originally coined by a peer... To a stranger or prospective recruits, perhaps the intimidation factor, if perceived, could be diffused with the tag line, "come swim with me" as in "work along side me in my business". Sort of like business/marketing columnist/author Harvey McKay's book: "Swim With The Sharks". So do you think adding a tag line to diffuse any negative connotation would be in order ?

I can understand how the term would be affectionate among peers, especially in a corporate setting, but ask yourself this: would you want to work for someone who proudly referred to themselves as a piranha--especially in a field where so much depends on positive first impressions?

If you're dead set on using the nickname you might introduce it in her bio or through something conversational. As a headline or tagline, though--it would turn me off.
