Different people use it in different ways.

I've used it to find JV partners. It's a nice way to find 'em, meet 'em, get to know 'em a bit and build a relationship. Seems like there are a lot of marketers on Twitter trying to promote their stuff, so it's just a natural place to meet these folks.

Plus, if I find one good prospect on Twitter, I might make a front end sale and a few backend sales. But if I find one good JV partner... well, the sky's the limit.

    Cheers,
    Becky

        @jpattric2 - Yes, it is.

Another warrior, Dana_W, wrote a simple, yet great WSO on using Twitter to get more business and she also does article writing, press releases, etc.

Not sure if it is still for sale, I think it's a couple years old now so it might be a little dated but her strategy would still work, I don't want to give it away but see if she still has it for sale and pick it up ASAP.

Twitter can definitely be valuable. Just make sure that you are building your relationships the right way. Don't be blasting your followers with a bunch of promo crap and not interacting with them. Give them something to talk about, show them some good piece of relevant information and see what they have to say.

Twitter allows you to add links in the tweets. You can use this to display your own links. For ex: one of my tweets today was Adding new web templates to my template site TemplateFair.com (61 characters). Try out creative ways to make your tweets fun, resourceful, intriguing.By tweeting frequently, following and being followed, you can grow a small community of people with similar interests and who recognize your name and your brand.

Search for people in twitter on the same niche - it could help you promote your business. However, don't make a post that could be plain hype or promotional, give it a little squeeze or tease so they can click on your link provided in your shout box in twitter.

Twitter can be an extremely powerful tool in helping drive traffic to your site. But as many have already mentioned you need to build relationships by tweeting about what's going on in your life.

Updates about obstacles, triumphs, your hang over, even you how your cat likes to walk on your keyboard while your trying to bang out copy! My cat does that!

Use it wisely and don't spam and you can go a long way with twitter!

  • One common trait that I have noticed in highly successful Tweeters is that they are all either very entertaining or add a lot of value in their 140c tweets. Its fine to send promotion tweets but keep them far apart so that your they know you are not only real but a valuable connection for them.

  • Twitter has a built-in search capability to find users by keyword, location, hashtags, usernames/handles, and even their attitudes - Advanced Twitter Search. After you search based on your criteria, you can then selectively start following people in your industry/niche or that match your interests.

Alternatively, if you want to save time doing all this, you can use a twitter marketing tool to do all of this for you on a daily basis. These tools are either available as a download/install or as an online service and you can choose to use either of them based on your preferences.

  • Good luck with your efforts in using Twitter for your business and marketing. It would be nice if all the OPs that are trying to accomplish something in their threads and do receive actionable responses post back their progress/updates so we can all learn from our collective experiences .

Good point! I see that a lot! I guess they go off and either two things happen.

The get no results and don't bother to come back and say it didn't work. Which can be due to many factors notwithstanding trying it once and not sticking with it.

      OR

It worked and they are to busy to come back!

I find that it is a great place to meet people and really connect with them. You can really start to learn a lot about a person from Twitter.

I also find that it provides a nice amount of traffic and that is something that can be very powerful.

Thank you I'm happy to be here.

To sloanjim: Yup, Facebook is actually a great marketing tool, as long as one doesn't spam and uses it professionally, of course. Since I like to keep my professional and personal life separate on there, I created an additional Facebook profile that's purely professional used to provide content to others that might be interested in online and network marketing.

    Hi there ..

In addition to the above information, there are quite a few tools that you can use for free while using twitter (have mentioned these in another post as well)
TweetLater - can help you manage your tweets
Twhirl - used for 2 way communication with fellow tweeters
Bit.ly - alongwith short URLs, it can be used to manage which of your tweets are getting clicked
TweetCake - one of the most important tools to back up your followers

I am also started to read about twitter marketing and have found these, hope they help. But what I dont understand is why would people like to know if someone is happy about the bright sunny day or getting ready for a dinner party or watching a football match on tele, etc etc. I mean about all the minute-to-minute stuff in peoples lives .. I can understand for a spouse, son, sister, any close family member or friend, etc

So trying to get my head around it!

Hey Sarah - how are you doing?

    Cheers!

I'm doing well, thanks How about you?

I can definitely see where you're coming from. People are so interested in what other people are doing...I don't get it either O.o

...But it helps with networking, so I guess we can't complain :p

I guess may folks here are newbie's to twitter marketing (perhaps using twitter for social connections only until now!). Though we are moving ahead with understanding & implementing twitter marketing, we've just started ... so I'm guessing that's why no one (atleast me) did not share twitter details. Having said that, mine is AbizerNalwalaUK. But hey, still figuring out how to best use twitter (without it being a spam machine :-)).

And still trying to understand the features of the forum as well ... you might have guessed!

      Cheers!

this is an idea for your thoughts

most people say: Twitter is great! Twitter is amazing! etc, etc, etc. But here is a little food for your thoughts.-
Recently John Reese, a rather successful marketer, just deleted his Twitter account. He had around 25 thousands of followers in it.
Why? - He said that he is disappointed with Twitter & has much better results with other ways of marketing. More & more people don't read tweets any more, just auto-post them.

if you don't believe me - just search in Google yourself (for example, this is the first thing I found: John Reese Deleted His Twitter Account - Should You? | Elite Ghostwriters Blog)

lol just because John deleted his account doesnt mean you should to, why be a sheep and copy what other people are doing?

    nothing wrong with Twitter.

thank you, H3x! probably you are right here.
However, to me the quite opposite is more true. -

Because when lots of people create Twitter accounts & start 'Twitter'ing - a lot of them simply don't know what they do - they simply blindly follow the advice of others. without absolutely knowing what they do .
And, sorry H3x, such people do look like you described in your previous post.

Yes, Twitter can be great for business, but still - John didn't do it without any reason, isn't it?

Even if 95% of the tweets are auto posted, etc, etc, that does not mean there are not real people out there (some of whom I have actually had arguements with!) That being said, people are people and people buy stuff. Spending 15 minutes a day replying to someone that RTed you or asked you a question may not be the most productive use of your 'work' time, however if you consider IM as not 'work' then it is a whole lot easier to justify.

Twitter is growing to fast and if you can tap into the network of people who are using it - riches are at your feet.
There are ways to have a hand full of twitter accounts - for different businesses or similar businesses and link them together. I mention that in my blog from today. Titled Twitter.

twitters great to promote yourbusiness, you just have to get followers first....you should follow anybody and everybody who can be a potential client and then hopefully they'll follow you back. Then you just "tweet" new features, special promotions etc. as the business develops.
