Are we all just fools doing this?

Let's take a VERY hyped upcoming product and let's simply call it "Product X".

Right now, every marketer and their mama is already promoting this product like crazy. If you look on Google there are already zillions of sites promoting the product.

Product X is not even out yet...

All the affiliate links on those many sites go to a "SUBMIT YOUR EMAIL" page.

So there are hundreds of marketers who do nothing else than wasting their time, work, money on sites and blogs simply giving the product creator(s) free leads and emails on their aweber.

--> Do you really think that the emails which will be sent (which YOU collected for them!!) will contain YOUR affiliate ID and that YOU will see a penny from those email offers?

Product creator of "Product X" is likely already having 1000s and 1000s of emails which YOU foolishly collected for them by using the affiliate link(s) on your site.

Every single visitor who was on your hype-blog for Product X and signed up via the affiliate link...is LIKELY one customer less for YOU since they will get this "incredible offer" in their email the day the product launches...

Foolishness knows no borders....

Yeah....it's becoming more of a pain, just to check your emails when 1/2 of them are marketers promoting the same product...

"Product X is live!!!!...Go, Go, Go...!!!

Well, I know for a fact that many of these squeeze pages do indeed track which affiliate got the lead to originally opt-in.

Once their email is in the system, if they ever purchase the eventual product, it is attributed to the original affiliate who got them to fill in the squeeze page.

As NikkiG mentioned, some marketers may not be as "ethically sound" as others, and may decide to shave off some of your leads.

Of course, it is also possible the cookies can be deleted inadvertently and all kinds of other issues. But for the most part, yes the people sending you to those squeeze pages "lock in" their leads for when the launch occurs.

Umm maybe I'm not following you, but I'm pretty sure they have cookies set so once the product sells the person who directed you to the offer will get credit, even if its weeks later. Also I think I know what you are talking about and every time I get an email from an affiliate with their link it comes hours before the owner emails out a message so if I did purchase from someone it would be from an affiliate link. I see what you mean about the owner of the product getting a bunch of email leads but I'm pretty sure all the big gurus that are promoting for him are not thinking they will get screwed over by him...and if they do he's pretty much done in the industry anyhow...don't you think??

      Let's see how this works...

I open up my email program.

I see five emails all promoting the same product (hint: the subject line).

I know all five marketers, and I am on their lists (not spam).

So who is directing me to the offer in this case?

      The first email I open?

The guy whose email hit my inbox first?

The guy who sent the email to me first (time delayed)?

The guy I like the most?

      The coolest guy?

Again, who is directing me to this offer?

It can't be all five, and I rarely get pitched by only one marketer.

      But...

I know who I'll eventually buy from if I do so, do you?

Well, most likely whichever link you first click to actually go to the opt in squeeze page will get credited for your lead.

Some programs give the cookie just for clicking to the page, some programs will only credit the affiliate if the lead actually opts in after clicking their link.

A third option is what JennSpencerIM said: The cookie could potentially be overwritten by every single affiliate link clicked... Which kind of sucks in my opinion, especially for the first guy!

So, basically if you get 5 marketers all promoting it... First one to the finish line wins... So to speak.

Some vendors do track and re-cookie all leads.

Jeff Johnson for example does this each time he mails out a new product..even a year later still inserts your affilaite ID.

So in a pre-launch all i would have to do is start funnelling leads...if that is the way I wanted to roll.

Not all vendors have integrity so I'm not disagreeing with you.

I just happen to know first hand that several do...because I send them email leads a long time ago and every new launch I get new commissions.

I don't jump on product launches but rather find good vendors first and then work that way.

Guess I'm NOT a marketer then.

Believe it or not, not EVERY marketer is promoting this stuff. Furthermore, not every marketer subscribes to this person's list. Additionally, there are some marketers who don't follow what this particular marketer does at all. And, finally, some of us are even fed up with seeing their name plastered all over the place as if he is some sort of God.

    All the best,

I don't know why everybody waste so much time on all these im product promos. There are tons of other niches.

Some of them are tracked and some are not. I wouldn't want to do any of those kind of offers unless I knew it was tracked the entire time.

Probably because the people who consistently promote these campaigns mostly have HUGE lists and make a boatload of money for each of these promotions?

I certainly would do the same in their positions, why not?
