I Have A Bizzare Problem With FF Only At The WF

Warriors, I have a bizzare problem and I don't know what's causing it.

This started yesterday.

The forum is loading at a crawl again (just like before Allen went to Apache)
but it's only happening on Firefox and on my one computer.

If I use IE (which I am on now) it load fast. As a matter of fact, I am
writing this now as I am waiting for my Firefox to still load.

If this was spyware or a virus, wouldn't this affect both browsers?

Since it is just the one browser and just on the one PC, I am stumped as
to what's cauing it.

Any ideas? Or are others having this same problem?

    Hi Steven

I'm using IE and it's really, really slow for me. But, you say it loads fast for you on IE.

I thought it was just my computer but I'm not so sure now.

It'll be interesting to see who else is having the same problem.

    Best wishes

    Mary

I am having the same issue and I use IE. It's really, really slow again...probably because it is such a highly traveled site.

I had a similar problem last week with one of my computers. Actually, it got to the point where the page simply wouldn't load, although it was fine in IE and on Firefox on my other computers.

Whatever it was, it resolved without me doing anything.

Which is not helpful at all, now that I read what I wrote.

I had a problem like that a week or so ago.

I disabled some of the add-ons (via the tools menu) and it got back up to speed.

I've since switched them back on and it's fine.

I'm guessing that one of the add-ons was trying to look for updates and confused the program.

    Hello Steven,

Go to the update manager and make sure it is not waiting for some update. Go to your cache and empty the cache and cookies. Close FF down and restart. That should do it. On rare occasions, my FF loses the connection with the internet. In this case, I must restart Windows for this problem to go away. Hope this helps.

      Steven,

I am having the same problem and I am using IE. The WF is loading at a very slow crawl but other sites that I visit are loading at the normal speed.

This started yesterday for me also....So is it really my computor or something up with the WF site?

Yea, I started noticing the slowdown, yesterday on IE. This was happening on my computer at work and home. It's not loading any too quickly, now.

It reminded me of how the old forum used to load.

I disabled a couple things on the forum. Does it seem better now for everyone?

Yeah, that seems to have done it.

It seems to be either the Forum Statistics we had on the front of the page or the Similar Threads thing at the bottom of all threads. I don't think anyone ever used the similar threads anyway so nothing missed there. But I personally liked the forum statistics on the front of the forum...

The forum stats were pretty cool. I actually joined the war room because I clicked on a thread in the premium section which reminded me that I forgot to signup! Well, you can attribute at least one sale to those stats Oh well, I'll take a faster loading forum over stats every time.

You would be surprised how many sales those stats brought in :-)

It's loading very, very slowly for me still in both FireFox and IE.

My slowdown started yesterday as well.

    Hi,

I've not noticed any problems With IE on dialup In fact this forum is great on dialup.

As far as stats they are nice and I always check them. I'll miss them. However, if they are slowing Steven down, stats must go.

It wasn't just Steven, it was me too. IE barely moved for me in here. FF slowed down badly since yesterday. No idea why really, nothing has changed that I know of.

I don't think it has anything to do with the stats. page because the stats. have been up for quite a while.

Much better today. Yesterday was the first I've had an issue in a while.

Note- you could try scaling down the stat cluster to a 3 column top five of your choice... Other places I frequent utilize this and it poses no issue.

I assume you already have this, but in case....

You can tweak this formation one column shy of what's shown below...might work better.

We've had the stats for a while now though, along with that similar threads thing. So can we really say that they are the problem?

In actual fact, it still seems a little slower than normal. It IS a touch faster without the couple of things you disabled, don't ya just hate it when problems like this occur?!

...It's amazing how plugins can have an effect on things! (Think about WordPress, and people with 100's of them installed!)

    Thanks

Okay, well, it looks like the "fix" was temporary.

Things are back to abnormal again.

I agree that the stuff that was disabled had been around for a while so
there's no logical explanation as to why they would have any effect.

But somebody mentioned a time yesterday that this all started and that's
exactly when it did for me as well, so something happened around that
time that has caused this. I don't know if looking at logs will do any good
and as far as ideas from me, forget it...I am a total techno dunce when it
      comes to this stuff.

I think it has something to do with you approaching the 10,000 post. The system is trying to deny you, the forum loads incredibly fast for me

Yeah, that did it. I say we nuke the guy who did this.

One other thing. Folks, this is why we have to report
things like this. It could be something serious like
somebody trying to bring down the forum.

If you notice things aren't right, speak up, especially
if the change is almost instantaneous.

For me, since yesterday afternoon, ... and not only with the WF, but other places as well ... the majority of the page will load, but you can't do anything on the page (scroll, click, etc) until that last 5% loads, which takes 10+ seconds.

Also, the internet here in the US has been bad. Several nodes and stations were either down or experiencing problems. Effected myself here in NC and my boss in KS ... internet has been up and down ... down for a few moments, then come back ... go down, etc. Pulses.

Happens for me as well. Not just here though.
My working ritual is to exit FF,run CCleaner then EasyCleaner and if no success with that I restart my cable modem.

It could simply be I hate PC's due to constant-never-ending issues with the OS's since switching from DOS(Sniff..sure do miss that OS) and the PC gets too emotional.
ooops! I almost wrote the pc is a female but, THAT would have been REALLY stupid. No telling what torrential rain of rath that would have brought down on me. Boy oh boy glad I caught that one
I'm doing some punishment pushups just for thinking that.

Or could be the heavy positive Ions emitting from my fingers.

Or like quantum physics maybe, because just when I'm sailing along surfing like I'm Duke Kahanamoku, I think "this is too easy", just then I get a locked screen, it crawls or something else and it's like me crashing into the rocks.

Maybe an aluminum foil hat would help. I'll let you know the results.

For my system I get the fastest speed from Opera, then FF,Flock.
