Noobish question regarding KW Research/Optimization for a Macro Niche Site

Hey all!

I've read alot of information on how to properly do keyword research for micro niche blogs that promotes or sells specific products... like for example, hiking boots. And with all the blog posts about different brands and types of hiking boots, you are able to use your primary keyword and use some secondary keywords in there as well...

But what if, for example, my blog is about all shoes in general? And so, my primary keyword will then be too "specific" for my general shoes blog, am I correct?

So would I be correct in assuming that for every category (and every post from then on), I will have to treat each post as a "micro niche" in terms of keyword research? Would that, then, mean my macro blog will have no primary keyword since all my categories/blog posts have their own primary keywords? And so if I'm using something like the WP plug-in SEO All-in-one where I'm defining my main page's keywords... should I just be plugging in the keywords I have for my categories?

Sorry if I'm being unclear about this!! Thank you all ahead of time for clearing this up for me - I'm sure this must be one of those "doh, I should've known it" things but for the life of me, I just can't figure it out at the moment!

I think you are over-analyzing it, the search engines like Google knows the different between shoes and hiking boots. They use a thing called LSI. Quit trying to micro-mange exactly how each keyword is going to be optimized and just focus on the content delivered.

Precisely, if you are going to do a post on say "Columbia Hiking Boots" focus your post around that phrase. Provide good content that is keyword right.

As your blog expands and you continue to talk about more different shoe types/brands and styles, you will get more rankings who will browse around your blog and start increasing all your ranks..

But definitely don't over analyze that simple seo process.

        Thanks for the feedback guys!

So pretty much once the blog starts filling up, I'll basically be ranking for all the keywords for each topic/post, and not just a few specific ones then?

That's what I wanted to confirm Thanks again!
