Hey, I'm looking for information on up-sell strategies and statistics. Anyone know of any good books or links?

This is a good post by Big Mike, He is talking abot OTOs, which are a great way to up sell and cross sell.

I operate upsells on all my niche sites - ranges between 55%-65% take the upsell, amazingly consistent on sites where I've run the same upsell for 1+year.

          Thanks Jeff.

I'm looking at how to offer them. Let's say you have a checkout system that takes 3 steps, and you have 2 upsells (based on what the customer is purchasing) that you want to push. I'm assuming it would be best to break the upsells up between the check out processes...but then again, it might be better to wait until they've spent their money and try afterwards.

Until now, I haven't tried to refine any of my upsells, but I want a good idea of how it works best before I really dig in... I can refine things with tests after I come up with an initial plan.

I wouldn't try and go any more than 1 upsell, I've successfully offered a 2 option upsell and a 3-option upsell where the user clicks the order button and is taken to an intermediate page and offered either one optional upsell (a product bundle) or on one of my sites I market a bronze, silver, gold upsell where the bronze is single product, silver includes 6-month membership site subscription and gold includes 30-days of personal email coaching.

I wouldn't want to stop them in the ordering process more than once. If you have another upsell, then consider offering it post-sale as an add-on or through a back-end autoresponder sequence.
