Local business results on Google SERPs

I just noticed something that I haven't noticed before - Google puts "Local Business Results" with the map differently for different searches.
For example, if I search Google for schaumburg flowers I get the map with local business results right below the 3 sponsored links, so if I want to see organic search results I actually have to scroll down because they start right below the map. Now, if I search Google for arlington heights flowers I get 3 sponsored results, then 3 organic results, and then the map of local business results.
Is there a logic somewhere here?
Actually, in the first case, it looks like it is not even worth the effort to try to rank organically, I bet even the first organic result doesn't get too many clicks because most people don't even bother scrolling down.
Any thoughts?

Yeah - those are called the '10 pack'.

Just google it and you'll get your answers - "google special 10 pack" or similar will get it for you.

We've spoken about this before a few times so the forum search should get you warrior comments too. I know I've posted about this and how to show up there before.

Andy, Thank you! I appreciate your immediate and right-to-the-point answer. I don't normally deal with local listings, so this is all new to me. It looks like I have some catching up to do.
    Thanks again!
