I bought an expired domain last week because of the PR and number of backlinks. I am using the Mage system (I just want to try it out for one site and see how it goes).
Anyway, one of the tips that they employ to get accepted by EPN, is to copy the cached or archived content of the website if it is not copyrighted. The domain that I have actually had quiet a bit of cached content, and as I was going through it, I noticed the domain name, year, and a copyright symbol at the bottom of the page. Does this mean that all of the content is copyrighted?
I am trying not to be stupid, but after a full work week and my hubby getting made at me 'playing on my computer' I cannot think straight.

All content is copyrighted by the original creator. You do not have the right to use the previous owners content in any way.

You never have the right to use anything you didn't create yourself unless the author gives you express permission.

I don't think you'll run into a copyright problem with an abandoned domain. The symbol was probably put there to deter copying of the site when it was live. The content and website has most likely been put to rest.

Just my opinion ... not a legal opinion. Copyright does mean copyright, like no means no, but you asked if we thought you'd run into a problem, and I don't think you would. People who abandon a site like that have generally lost interest in it and the content.

I learnt about IP rights in a school module before, I think everything out there is naturally copyrighted or at least for most countries.

The thing to note is all rights reserved, that is what you have to apply for.

There is no longer a requirement that something have a copyright symbol for it to be copyrighted.
