Showing an Ebook Cover Leads People To Think Its a Physical Product?

In NON internet marketing niches, I'm getting some slack from people who think it's misleading to show an ebook cover when it's not a physical book. I get this at least once a day.

The website and the shopping cart clearly state downloadable manual, however since there is a photo of my EBOOK they say believe there is an ebook and a printed manual just based on seeing a picture.

Is there anything I can do to make it more obvious?? Whenever the manual is mentioned on the website (because a physical DVD is also sent) I say "downloadable" I like to steer away from ebook and I think downloadable makes more sense.

But when they see a photo they claim I'm scamming them. Any thoughts...

Well every eBook can be turned into a physical book when you print it out in a book format. Aren't they aware of that?

I've had the same thing happen to me.

Had to give refunds to people who bought the ebook and then emailed me weeks later wondering where there book was!

They were expecting something to come in the mail and had no idea what a download even was nor were they remotely interested in reading a book on their computer or printing it out.

I feel badly when it happens because I can't deliver what they want.

lol....it IS a physical product when they take 30 seconds to actually print it out themselves....

Maybe you could write "Downloadable and Printable"....."Forget having to go to Barnes and Noble to buy this book, you can download it and print it off right away!"

Why don't you try putting your book through CreateSpace and getting it onto Amazon as well.

Then you can give people the option to buy either the print book or the Ebook, so they can choose for themselves

I've tried this before and found I got about 50/50 physical & ebook purchases.

Perry Marshall sells an ebook version as well as a printed version of his "Definitve Guide..." Each has its own price and is clearly marked on the salespage.

Perhaps the key word here is "clearly" like precious_ngwu said.

Or just take the images off - I've not had compelling evidence on my pages that graphical representation of an digital ebook boost sales in the last year... I know they USED to but I haven't noticed it lately... maybe different outside of IM...

Another thing to consider - sending a "thank you email" asap to those who buy EXPLAINING what they purchased...

I have had the same problems too.

I think we just need to make it blindingly obvious and write 'eBook' 'down loadable product' and all that everywhere we can.

Goes to show that some people still prefer reading physical books as opposed to reading off their monitors. Now where's that thread which mentioned physical books being passe'?

    I have a few thoughts...
First off, are you sure these aren't just people ripping you off, and doing it to other sites too? Buy the ebook, complain, get a refund. You just got a free ebook. No matter how you slice it, with an ebook, once they have it they have it, refund or not, they can't return it.
Perhaps we should get into selling ebooks that you cannot save a copy of or print, but only access online. heh.

You could put a clear disclaimer that everything is final sale, no refunds for digital products...

You could, the very first time at the top of the page, use the wording like "downloadable electronic book you can read on your screen not on paper" I think this must be hard to confuse... lol.

Add a required checkbox like for ToS that you have to check that says "I understand I will download this product and nothing will be shipped to me"

    Hope that helps?

Good thoughts! Since there is a DVD too, we have a return policy that is minus shipping costs. So even if they are scamming me, they have to pay to return the DVD and lose out on their shipping fee. I haven't processed but maybe one return before the DVD was sent.

Thanks all...I'm going to test out a bunch of this stuff. I hadn't thought of offering it as a printed book through CreateSpace. Also we used to sell a printed version over a year ago but it just wasn't cost effective.

I think a lot of people just misread or they simply look at images and don't read!! I don't realize that there are still millions of people who have no idea what an ebook when I'm working outside the internet marketing niche.

Down by your order button I would just say:

This is a digital product available for immediate download. This product consists of 3 (or whatever number) PDF files. You will receive nothing by mail.
