Affiliates Vs MRR- What are your thoughts?

Good afternoon Warriors!

I'm wondering what your thoughts are on selling products with MRR vs. affiliates.

If you choose both, how do you structure it?

Affiliate program first, with a time-frame to sell the MRR later?

Or MRR first, and then affiliate program?

Do you do both? If so, how do you differentiate one from the other for both parties?

    Hi Danielle,

I think you should engage in both in a tactful manner. Do create a prominent 'affiliate page' fully loaded with 'hopguard' affiliate link generator, banner ads, pre-written auto responder emails etc.

You really need to attract super affiliates so having the encrypted affiliate link generator and high commissions is key.

When it comes to MRR I think a tactful approach is to just offer resale rights. Embed it as an OTO within the sales process so that they only have the one opportunity to purchase these. The fact its resale rights, the buyers can't change the content in your e-Book so any affiliate links in your e-Book or even your author name / brand identity will remain intact.

In this regard it won't cannabilize your own market as much as MRR could. Having said that, the internet is such a vast abyss - MRR is unlikely to be too detrimental.

Whatever you choose I personally do think that Resale Rights, embedded as an OTO within the sales process is the way to go and it greatly complements an effective affiliate program.

    All the best,
    Mao

      Hi Mao,
Thanks for such a well thought out answer.

I've done both and they both work well for me, but I wonder why an affiliate would promote something that someone else has resell rights to and will make 100% commission on?

The obvious answer is that the holder of the rights paid for the rights where the affiliate did not, but that still leaves me to wonder if that would deter a potential affiliate from promoting the product.

What's the end goal? And what is the product value?

A couple of things to consider.

MRR on a product is OK for branding but you're literally handing over that product to someone else, they collect the leads, revenue and granted the headaches as well.

It's an OK plan but I wouldn't want to give away that much control for many products.

Instead of MRR I might go for higher (100%) affiliate commissions on a front end product. You get the leads and future sales and maintain control of the product, and it's common for the affiliates to handle the refunds so it is a nice option in my opinion.

So I'd brand with MRR - provided some good resellers came along.

Or I'd look for fast list building and market penetration with 100% affiliate commissions.

As an affiliate marketer I don't really like the hassle of setting up MRR products compared with simply directing traffic to an exisiting offer.

Not sure if many super affiliates need you to provide a cloaked link, after all it takes me 2 seconds to safeguard my own links anyway but a set of marketing materials seems like a good addition...for MRR or affiliates.

      NikkiG,
Thank you. The end goal really at this point is figuring out how to do both without pissing anybody off.

Selling niche products with rights I think will make money faster than selling through affiliates.

But I still want my affiliates.
Guess I want to have my cake and eat it too.
