Is it true that "crackers" can use your PC as drone to attack other PC's What are the Signs?

Hi,

Due to a project of mine, I'm lately forced to connect to the internet
for several days without turning my Laptop off.

Since I heard of the security risks of doing this, I just would like to ask
if anybody knows the signs of a hacked PC.

I notice a significant slowdown in my laptop recently and I just want to
make sure that it's not compromised.

I have Avira personal for anti-virus, Zone Alarm for firewall, and spy bot.

Is my setup enough to ward of crackers..or hackers as they are called these days.

All the best,

Hi, try to open task manager and look what process takes a lot of memory.

You also should always update your antivirus db. By the way I use BitDefender Total Security, he is pretty good.

It's not a guarantee of infection/compromise, but this is a symptom.

In short, yes, your computer can be taken over, even with the latest updates to security software (anti-virus/spyware detection, etc.).

In your case, before you do the below items, grab malwarebytes and run a full scan.

Make sure your anti-virus is up to date and run a full scan with that too.

    Overall Best practices:
Do updates to your computer - Windows update, Office updates. If on a MAC, do updates to it as well.

Since you said PC, I'm presuming Windows, so open Internet Explorer (sorry if you don't like IE, but you need it for this) - click on Tools, Windows Update.

If you don't see that option, there's a Security Menu on the right by default in newer IE versions... choose Security, Windows Update.

Keeping your PC updated like this (you can turn on auto updates too) is one of the best ways to help protect yourself.

Security is all about layers. You have a lock on your door to your house/apartment. Some folks have a deadbolt. Some have an alarm. Some have razor wire, some have machine guns and land mines.

Point is - locking the door knob and deadbolting is more secure than leaving the door wide open.
