Modify Good Karma List machine?

Hey guys,

I'm not sure if Frank would be cool with this or not, so if you're around let me know!

I want to make use of the list machine he's created, however I'm a little disappointed that there isn't a field to capture a contact name with the email! Personalizing emails to your list is definitely the way to go to increase open and CTR, etc, so I'm surprised it wasn't included.

Any thoughts on a workaround? Or coder out there that can somehow add the name field?

Thanks!
CcK

That sounds like a great idea - I'd just be happy with a working script that allows you to login to start with lol Have you heard any update on this? I had a thread here bookmarked but appears to have been deleted.

There will probably be knock-off scripts around within
a month. I expect some of them will have more features.

Yup...I'm waiting patiently. Someone will eventually realize it's the perfect CMS for marketers to potentially deliver products, memberships and bonuses.

Right now, GKLM only works with Aweber...and though they're popular...they're not the end-all of marketing. There are many people running InfusionSoft, GetResponse, AutoResponse Pro, etc that would love a well-rounded script with more features (ban list for disposable email, anyone?).

Are you saying you could make the Good Karma List Machine work? If yes, please help me, because I couldn't get it to work on HostGator and my own server in Australia. In desperation I tried Blue Host and bought a domain and hosting with them for this purpose, just to see if Frank is right in his statement that this software works only with Blue Host. I thought he was wrong all the way and it turned out to show the same problem: it's not possible to login as admin after the initial setup. As if there was a dark force trying to prevent me from any success yesterday and today, I tried two more scrips and neither of them worked - the instant affiliate generator (the generated script didn't produce the content as seen in Gary McCaffrey's instructional video and the support link didn't do anywhere) AND Filsaime's viral friend generator (it refused to connect to any database). I can't recall having had so many 'not workings' in a row!
If you are happy to help please email me dietrichlasa@gmail.com
(I'd pay for someone to fix Kern's script.)

Yes - this script, though it has a catchy name - is by no means a "new" invention...I'm sure you guys already know that and have seen similar scripts before this one...

Any suggestions perhaps for some of those similar scripts? Seems like a great way to increase opt-ins, and don't want to have to wait a few months until the knock offs start arriving!

I suppose I could post it as a coding job at elance, just a rework of his script shouldn't be too much.

Before that though... checking the terms of service is in order! Don't want to get myself in trouble! Mind you... did he provide any sort of terms of service with the software?!

Regarding GKLM - there were no rights documents released with it, but I always take that to mean I have no right other than personal use. Getting a modification done for your own copy that you aren't distributing shouldn't be an issue, but it's always best to double check with the owner, as you don't know how your modification is going to work with any future version if they have one planned...

Regarding a similar script...this is NOT an affiliate link, but if you look at this product close enough, I'm sure you can accomplish similar results as GKLM, using ANY autoresponder ;-)

    Instant Affiliate Generator

I own this and have used it for several promotions, (from Gary McCaffrey), and it's very easy to setup and use.

    Hope this helps!

The thing I don't like about that is there is no login system or easy way for people to keep track.

According to the webpage there, "We use cookies to remember your stats so you must be using the same computer and browser to check your progress. If you delete your cookies your totals will be reset and you will have to start over again from 0%!"

That's kind of a lame solution.

Honestly, I looked for something like GKLM and the closest thing I found was butterfly marketing. It works, but it's so involved it's like using an atomic bomb to plant a flower.

np Billy - hope it gets you a step closer to what you're trying to do!

hi LB - yeah I mean in principle this is the same thing - you refer "x" people to the site, and the reward opens automatically with no admin interaction.

You can use any autoresponder to then catch the lead on the next page, and send them to any URL afterwords, any affiliate program, any promotion, blog, video, etc.

They aren't a side by side matchup, but I do think they are similar.

Cookies aren't the best way to track referrals I agree with that, but compare this to the script we're talking about here in this thread, which you can't even login to at the moment. I'm sure that will be fixed at any time based on Franks reply so will look forward to using it myself when done!

I purchased the Instant Affiliate Generator on your recommendation. I hope Gary McCaffery sees this.

My web guy asked me to contact their support (because he is on the road for the next several hours), but as you can see, the IAG support button leads to a completely unrelated ad when it's clicked on.

The support link from the sales page also leads to nowhere, ie, "The website cannot display the page."

Meanwhile the only email confirmation I received was from Paypal advising me that I'd made a payment to Gary, so we have no contact information.

The problem my web guy ran into is that the url and the link that is generated both point to the IAG landing page rather than to my sales page. Here is what my web guy wrote to me:
      ----
OK, I was able to install this, and placed the code on the test page:
      [deleted url]
(This page represents the landing page for the action popup.)

The only real issue that I can see is that the the links point to the
test page, (i.e., above URL), rather than to the desired campaign URL
of [deleted url]. Yes, I double-checked
to make sure that I configured this field correctly. Yes, this is a
"show stopper", since you want to promote your primary sales page,
not the landing page to the action popup.

This may be simple, it may not be. I have not yet attempted to debug
this. My brain's now fried, and I need to wake up in three hours.

It may be faster for you to forward this entire email to their support people,
since I will be driving for several hours Tuesday morning.
      ---

We're stuck. We might be inches away from having this set up properly, but right now we are stuck.

Could someone help me...maybe give me an email address to Gary or a working support url/email?

More people opt-in with email only and if your emails are done correctly, the name doesn't make a difference.

So I've been told by some big people. Never tested it myself but Kern has and that's why he didnt bother with a name field.

Of course this depends on the niche so test it.

By far the best implementation of a script like this is the one they ran at CPA Marketing

They claim it's an old script they bought years ago for $17 but no info on what it actually is or who offered it.

I guess the name issue is a whole other debate, I recall reading a certain percentage more (don't want to hazard a guess, but I know it's in the double digits) respondents open emails if their name is in the subject.

With a name like Kern, I'm sure he can get away without personalizing emails, but my thought is that when building a relationship from scratch without any 'brand name' recognition so to speak, the more personalized the better!

At any rate... appreciate all the thoughts and recommendations here!

That use to be true but now that everyone does it - including spammers - not so much now.

BUT I think it depends on how you position yourself, the opt-ins, etc.

Personally, I look at the subject and then the sender. If the subject is cool but its from certain people, I delete it.

Remember, what works in make money might not work in other topics. And even what works in "make money" could depend on where the list comes from. For example: My safelist people seem to be very new and act different from buyers.

      Test. test. test.

      Garrie

*EDIT* I do agree w/ what you said about Kern having recognition in the market so his stats could be totally different.

The theory was (I say "theory" because I haven't tested it myself, and I say "was" because I haven't heard of anyone testing it recently) that the use of the name in the subject resulted in a higher open rate, but using email only in the squeeze resulted in a higher opt-in rate, and all things being equal, the higher opt-in rate yielded better results.

    Ken,

You mentioned being unable to log into the GKLM script, is that after setting things up and then going back later?

The reason I ask, is I went ahead and set things up as per Frank's video (I have it downloaded if anyone needs it) and it all seems to be working fine. I don't want to close down and log out if I'm not going to be able to get back in!

Adding the name field to a list is dramatically damaging to opt-in rates.

I have never seen an increase with a name field added to the process.

Profitability, and results do not decline with the removal of the name field... e-mail personalization went south when marketers started getting too "personal"...

One field.. e-mail, is all that is required.

Of course, the above is only my opinion based on my own tests, in various niches and with many more variables than I care to share right now...

As for the script... there are already 5 or 6 marketers that I know of personally, who are making similar in-house scripts with more features than GKLM...

We've done ours and it is still a little buggy right now, a little ironing over the next few weeks and it will be firing on all cylinders.

    Peace
