How do they get so many article views ???

Hi warriors,
there is something I really can't figure out and I would appreciate your help.
I am trying to improve my article marketing and managed to get a platinum account on Ezine articles.

I am currently promoting a weight loss product, and I went to ezine articles to find the most viewed articles about it.
I found one that got more then 100 000 views since October 2009.

I added just one word to the title, rewrote the article and kept the main keywords at the same place.
My article got accepted, and it is very similar to the one with huge traffic, and I am getting only 5-10 views a day..
Where is the catch?

    1. Maybe the author of that article is really popular?
    2. Maybe the author of that article promoted article in other website? For example maybe he did social bookmarking on his ezine article?
    3. Maybe when he wrote that article it was about something very popular back then, maybe it is not popular and searched as it used to be back then.

There could be many reasons to that.

I have noticed this also. A lot of these article websites have not evolved to control "view spam". Maybe I'm being cynical, but I think many writers inflate the number of views by using an automatic refresh. YouTube had a problem with this in the past as people tried to get on the "most viewed" list.

If the views are legitimate, they are probably linking to the article from other domains.

One more question about submitting keywords to ezine articles when I write an article...

    If my main keyword is:

    How to lose weight fast

and the title of the article is: How to lose weight fast - Tips and Tricks

shall i put the phrase "how to lose weight fast" in the keyword box, or use those short two-word keywords that are suggested by ezine?

They probably send a lot of traffic to the article from other traffic sources.

    Hi lonicera,

In addition to what everyone has answered... I would just like to add, going to someone elses content and re-writing it is a form of plagiarism. And you only changed one word in the title? Wow. Maybe not the best of ideas.

It's totally fine re-writing PLR content... but in general, it's always best to learn the subject in hand yourself first, and write unique relevant high quality content that provides massive value. Then add to that your good keyword research, SEO, promotion etc...

    Just my 2 cents

A high percentage of the time, the views are fake.

They do it by "stuffing" the article into high traffic pages, and/or buying junk impression traffic to drive the view numbers up.

They do it because, more views means they get the ezinearticles.com promoted spots (most viewed, most published, etc). These spots get them legitimate traffic so it's "worth" the time supposedly.

This isn't always the case, but a lot of the time it is.
