Hey Guys,

I thought this might be of interest to other warriors.

I have a new newsletter called Internet Marketer which is all about, er, Internet Marketing.

From a business point of view, it's designed as a vehicle for promoting affiliate products rather than my own products.

Now, although I have various lists on the go, I want to get as many people as possible into the Internet Marketer newsletter list, because that's the one I'm using weekly to drive those affiliate sales.

So I created what I call my subscriber funnel.

The subscriber funnel is designed to channel as many people as possible into my Internet Marketer list and works as follows:

1. People who come to my site see my popup displayed in using the GreyBox lightbox system. It invites them to join my free 7-day autoresponder course. I designed things so that I can control how long a visitor is on the site before they light box pops up. If you didn't know, this can have quite a marked effect on subscription rate.

2. The people who take the free 7-day autoresponder course are automatically subscribed to the separate Internet Marketer list. That means if they unsubscribe from one, they're still in the other. They run independently of each other, so I can send issues of Internet Marketer without affecting the running ecourse series.

3. People who order my products from my site have a one-click option to subscribe to Internet Marketer during the order process. My ordering software adds them to the Internet Marketer list as part of the "thank you for ordering" process.

4. I also post information on my blog and via Tweeter asking people to subscribe to Internet Marketer by sending a blank email to its subscription address. I get a steady stream of those.

I'm finding that by chanelling as many people as I can into that one list that it's growing quickly. I can also add as many "feeds" as I want to the funnel - either automatic feeds from other lists or systems, or manual subscriptions from new sources.

What prompted this post today was that I noticed (in real-time) that my "funnel" was feeding more people into the Internet Marketer list than were lost due to unsubscriptions after I sent out today's issue.

I guess none of this is really new. For me though, it helps avoid the situation where you end up with multiple smaller lists built up over time that you don't know what to do with.

Cheers,

Neil

I wonder why sending UCE is something someone should be proud of!

Thanks for your input, but you don't know all the facts.

I hope you don't mind but ... I was commenting your post, not something else. I didn't know that before daring (!?) to comment a a post I am supposed to visit all poster's websites and read everything he wrote in his life

BTW, I've just logged in someone else's email account and I deleted all emails

P.S. That account belongs to my sister and she told me to do so. I really don't know why I added this PS. The above second paragraph is crystal clear and everybody should understand from it that I'm talking about my syster's account Right?

Wouldn't you just find that you can send them more targetted emails based on the site where they signed up? And if all the lists are similar, broadcast to them all?

I don't understand why multiple lists is a problem.

              Hi Roger

              Good points.

I will still do that - i.e. send emails to the targetted lists.

I'm not sure I'm going to explain this next bit very well, but here goes...

...rather than just blast all the lists with offers etc, I wanted to do it in a 'nice' way - and that way is a recognisable, consistent, branded, content-filled newsletter that just happens to promote afiliate products too.

What I'm saying amongst all these words is, no matter where my subscribers originated from, or what targetted offers I send them, I also want to get them all into my newsletter automatically (and known to them), where I hope they will choose to remain because of its content.

I told you I couldn't explain it very well

              Cheers,

              Neil

Knowing Neil, I would presume that it is CLEARLY laid out before subscription.

Shame I didn't see this post about six months ago, which was exactly my dilemma (too many small lists, and what to do...).

I got frustrated to the point that now I have zero list to contend with; great post, nonetheless!

    Best regards,

Personally I think this would be ok if the extra lists were
double optin, thus giving someone the choice.

If I subscribe to someones list once,
I expect to be able to unsubscribe once too.

      Hi Leslie

They can definitely unsubscribe from whichever list they want.

When they subscribe to a list, in all cases they either:

      1. Know they'll be added to the newsletter (because it tells them on the form) and can choose not to subscribe at all if they don't want to. Even if they do, they can unsubscribe from one or both.

      2. Choose to subscribe to the newsletter as well as the list they're joining by checking a box. It's opt-in, not opt-out.

The whole thing's upfront from start to finish - so there are no surprises for the subscriber.

      Cheers,

      Neil
