(Mods: Allen Approved This Post - Thanks!)

If you have any questions regarding the upcoming Warrior Forum Video Production Lab Workshop, please ask them here (No PMs, no e-mail - let's have answers where all can benefit). Thank you.

A FEW NOTES
=========

1. This Workshop is being held on a private forum at Video Production Lab Private Workshop on The Warrior Forum
2. Please use your Warrior username on the order and when registering for the Workshop forum. I have to confirm and approve each registration.

3. If you have numbers in your WF username, you'll need to spell them out for the order form as the shopping cart only accepts alpha characters.

4. Please register ASAP after ordering your Workshop.

ADDED FAQ:

1. Can one still access the lessons later? What if one is busy and misses a few days?

A: The video lessons will be staying up in that forum for at least 6 months.

2: I can't log in with my WF username and password?

A: It's a different forum. You have to registers - as per the instructions on the PDF you download after paying the $35 fee. Do not use your WF password - make up a different one for this forum.

IMPORTANT - READ THIS

Read the PDF you download after ordering. You need to register at the new private forum after you finish the order. Then, you have to wait for approval.

Note: If you use a different name to register than you put on the order form, your approval can be delayed as it can't be confirmed. Please use same username on both.

    This looks really good Kevin.

Is there anything about script creation, tips for appearing on camera (confidence)?

That's the main problem I have with doing video and would love to over come it.

Yes, we'll be going over a few different types of scripts too (sales letter, video lesson, pre-sell video). There will be tips for shooting a live video, but also a way to avoid it.

This sounds interesting, I've just spent the evening creating a new video with some of the embedded techniques I'm sure you will teach so you probably caught me at a good time! Just to confirm, i have a few questions:

We will be receivng basically a daily mail that has step by steps right?
Is there a general progression schedule to be shared in advance?
Are spaces limited or is it simply anyone that signs up before next sunday?

    Thanks in advance!

No. Daily posts in the special forum that has been set up for this Workshop. There, you'll receive your video lesson, a PDF with the transcript, and your tasks for that lesson. No worries about missing it in your inbox.

Also, you get the interaction, advice, help, feedback from other Warriors.

Is there a general progression schedule to be shared in advance?
It's here on a large paper schedule in my office. I do not share it, because - as with previous Workshops - there will be bonus additions as we go along.

Are spaces limited or is it simply anyone that signs up before next sunday?
Spaces are not limited, but deadline is. DO NOT wait until the last minute. Every Workshop, I get the ones who missed it (wailing, gnashing of teeth, begging, pleading) and I'm sorry to say, the deadline is set in concrete.

Hmmm... I thought this effect was ill-used and lacked connection to the message actually. In addition, 5/6ths of this marvelous sized viewer was a dull color and after seeing it for a few seconds really served no purpose from then on. A real lack of real estate use here, but I suppose we were all spoiled with the Video Boss productions. The direction of the shot also deflected eye contact to the cars in the drive-in, and not the real viewer. It's crafty sure, but I think it took away from your great personality Kevin. I think this is a lesson in what not to do, and since it came from Kevin, the production of this may very well be a quiz/test as part of the course.

In spite of that weirdness, as a video producer I am always looking for more ideas and ways to improve my business, and at $35 is a steal to get content delivered from Kevin, so for that sir, I thank you very much and will see you there.

Well, the local flyer makers (who cram every millimeter of real estate with writing) would agree with you. I don't. Real estate online is cheap and white space (grey space in this case) is appreciated.

Note: The one thing I will be teaching in this Workshop is creativity, and how to be different, even if some don't like your video.

    Hey Kevin,

Your courses are always wonderful. I wouldn't miss this for all the snow in Utah.
At $35 it's one heck of a bargain.

I do have one question though... are you going to cover the proper use of make-up so I can hide my eye-bags and age spots?

BTW Some people can wiggle their ears, I can wiggle my eye-bags. I'll have to make a video for you.

Fantastic. Will be added to that part of the Workshop. I have a few tricks my wife taught me for those days when I go to shoot live but pulled a late one the night before. Works very well.

For video, it will be Camtasia. You may get advice on other software from some participants, but this is the one we'll use in the Workshop, as this is the most common software with IMers.

As for photo editing, there is a wide range of possibilities.

Well that will teach me to "read" - Sorry about the PM ;-)

You mention that resale rights will be available for the DVD ...

    1) will they only be for the physical DVD? (will there be an option to have an electronic download for the customer?)

    2) will there be a minimum price for it?

      Short answer is:

      1. Yes (No). It will only be physical.

      2. Yes (minimum suggested price, and suggested list price)

Note: Price has not been set, as these Workshops tend to become even bigger than planned - with more good stuff added. I've already added some cartoon image packages that weren't planned for the original.

    Hi Kevin,

From past experiences, your workshops exceed all expectations, so I'll be jumping in.

    i have a question however.

You mention using certain free trials...if you have already had a free trial of whatever, is there anyway that you know of to be able to get a free trial again?

Balst! Two questions in a row that I can't answer. Although I own a Mac, I've never used Screenflow so I cannot say. There are a number of Mac users here on WF, so maybe you could put your question to the main board.

THat's not two registration forms. The first screenshot shows you the front of the forum and where to click the Register link. The second screenshot shows the actual registration form, after clicking that link.

You can use any password you want. Just make sure your username matches what you put on the order form at my shopping cart - otherwise I may not be able to confirm you for activation (I've already got 3 Warriors whom I can't identify and I'm waiting for a reply from a query I sent to their registration e-mail).

Good grief! Now, he wants a picture ...

I'll have to chase down the dog and put batteries in the camera. So much to do, and the course is only days away ...

The closest I've ever come to doing a video was when I produced and edited a television news broadcast in my Journalism class back in '83, using their now outdated and cumbersome system.

Last Christmas, I purchased a new Sony HandyCam so that I can create some dog training videos to add to my other dog-related offers. I've yet to find time to figure out how to use it.

Digital photography is another story, so no cause for concern there.

But I'm wondering if I'm ready for this course.

I know absolutely nothing about how to use the camera, how to get the video into my computer, how to edit it, how to use whatever software I need, and how to make a finished product ready for distribution online and on DVD. (Except for some valuable instructions provided in a thread I started on "Camstasia or Camstudio?")

Silly to ask, because I can't lose at the price, but it'd be nice to know how far behind I am in relation to what will be taught.

            Sandy

Won't be able to help you with the Sony, as each of those cameras comes with its own software for uploading. However, there will be others who might be able to answer individually.

As for being a newbie, there are many and the first video we do is a very basaic one for learning the ropes.

              That'd be Sylvia.

I understand... it must be difficult communicating from inside Japan, what with the time warp and all.

No probs with the handicam. I'll figure that out. I really just wanted to know if I'm too far behind. But you know what?

I just got an email to look at another offer. He has instructional videos that use a yellow dot over the cursor so you can see what he's pointing at. If you're going to be showing us how to do that, I'm in. What a neat feature.

I hope it doesn't mean I need Camtasia.

Yes, we will be using Camtasia. But trial version OK. BTW, that yellow-dot thing is a simple setting in Camtasia prior to doing a screencapture.

The main thing is for me to be able to confirm it and activate you. I've just woken up (morning in Japan now) and about to check through all the new registrations. If I can match your registration in the new forum with your order, it's no problem. If I have a problem finding yuo, I will e-mail you at the address you use when you register in the forum.

I have already attended Kevins two previous training sessions and they were awesome. Naturally there was no way I was going to miss out on this one.

Even though "classes" haven't yet started there is a lot of great camaraderie going on with various people buddying up as well as forming study groups.

If anybody is sitting on the fence, I suggest you climb off quickly. Video is a fantastic marketing resource and is going to get bigger. Nobody who is a serious IMer can afford not to do the course (except those who are already experts in this particular field).

Kevins training is always wonderfully easy to follow and very comprehensive,

I look forward to seeing you all over there

          Sandy

        Hi Kevin,

WOW! I'm so excited to see this. My fiancee actually went to one of those high schools for the performing arts, like in 'Fame' (and yes, I asked and yes, he said, there were people dancing in the hallways.) He studied radio and tv production and film! He wound up going into the Emergency Services Medical field though, and now that we're getting married he was thinking about finding his own 'niche' in 'our' IM business. This seems like something he would be really suited for, BUT...

He has zero experience with sales and marketing.

Will you be going over ways to market, sell and profit from the video skills you'll be teaching?

Also, would he need his own separate WF ID or could he just use mine?

        Thanks,

Dani, your asking a lot from Riley. He can barely put his own socks on. I signed up just to see him make a fool of himself while he drools into a video camera. That is much better then a ticket to the movies.

            Thomas,

Well, I'm thinking I want in just for the entertainment of watching the slapstick pissing contest comedy routine between you and Kevin! LOL.

But I think the organization of a class with a forum where he can go and ask questions and meet people will offer my dear betrothed more ways to learn than just me trying to teach him.

              Kevin,
Thanks for getting back to me so fast. Just one more question.

Can you give me a rough estimate about how many hours a day we need to set aside to cover the material each day?

Class will be happening during our honeymoon, and we don't mind doing SOME work while on vacation, but I would like to know how much time to set aside for it so I can plan our other activities. (And I mean stuff like sightseeing for those of you who have your minds in the gutter.)

I know it will be up for 6 months, but it's more beneficial I think to participate with other people in the forum than to just read a book.

Thanks again Kevin. This is going to be awesome.

Seeing Kevin on video will not help your honeymoon.

The way the courses are organized is one of the reasons many people keep signing up for more of Kevin's courses.

Most will need about 1 hour a day, but I can't guarantee for all, as some individual projects may require more time.

More the packaging for marketing, not sales pages and such (wouldn't fit the scope of this Workshop).

He doesn't need his own WF. As long as the name on the order form is the same as the one her registers in the Workshop forum with, I can easily confirm and authorize him for access.

Actually, in Lesson 2 we go tool collecting and I give recommendation for video cameras too, but it's optional. There is even an option for those who don't have any video camera.

But, if you have some shekels that need to be spent, I recommend the Flip or the Kodak Zi8. But best if the output is AVI.

I'm somewhat on the fence for this one. I firmly believe that video is the way of the future for marketing (and Kevin has always produced awesome stuff), but there are a couple of problems.

First, The kind of videos I plan on making do not require a video camera. It's all on the computer. Do you cover these kinds of recordings? I take it we will at least need a microphone...do you cover outsourcing those tasks, or simply using text+music?

    Thanks.
The videos made here will be mainly on computer (not just screen capture, but also other stuff you can do without a camera). The live camera part will be a cameo style.

Yes, you do need a microphone.

      Dennis

I've actually used my Flip camera as a mic at times. Just drag the resulting video into an audio track in Cam and it strips the visual. Works quite nicely. Other than that, there are so many mics to choose from. A lapel mic works good. I've used an Audio Technica boom mic.

As for the camera, as long as it put out an output that can be imported into Camtasia (check the latest at Screen Capture, Screen Recorder, Video Hosting, and Usability Testing Software)

I'm good then. I've made one video and it's one I took with my digital camera and imported into Camtasia to add some text to it. That's the extent of my experience with video editing! Just have to pick to pick up a mic. Looking forward to it.

Great! Since we'll be creating the kind of videos where the live video is more of a cameo, quality of picture won't be a problem. You're good to go.

For a mic, I'd say ask your local sound shop guy.

Looks exciting, but the price is a bit steep. I mean, I can get a Stompernet course on video for $3,000.... Another $35?

One thing I've start playing with is Animoto (ie. video slideshows for dummies) . Do you get into apps or techniques that can do some of those effects, etc.? What they deliver looks great, but you have very little control.

Also, site was down awhile today. All sites on HostGator and even HostGator's main site were down. Now fine again. Glad it was now, as HG is usually very reliable.

        OK, Kevin, I'm convinced.

    Kevin -

Sorry if my question was vague. I wasn't asking if you will be teaching Animoto. I would expect that you would NOT be using it.

What I mean is this - some of the videos their system produces has great effects, transitions, "video windows" running inside floating window (sorry, don't know what that is really called), nice moving backgrounds, etc.

What I'm asking is whether you teach techniques (using Camtasia or other tools) that allow us to do some of those cool effects, to create some really stunning video.

    Thanks

Yes, some of them. But with yuo having control over what happens. We'll be doing some animation, some fun PiP work, all kinds of stuff in the bag of tricks.

        Hi Kevin!

I'm pretty excited about this workshop but before i sign up i have a couple questions i'm keen to have answered.

        1. Do you cover options for mics and mic setup? I've seen people use those mics you attach to your shirt collar but have no idea what they are or what they cost etc.

        2. Do you cover flip cameras or at least, what cameras we should be using for online video?

        3. Do you cover lighting and maybe give suggestions for cheap alternatives?

        4. Do you give recommendations for how long and how to create the right scripts for opt-in, sales page, or welcome videos etc?

Apologies for all the questions but it would really make the difference for me if i can learn these particular things, as these are the main sticking points for me with video atm.

          1. There are a large number of different mics you can use. One thing I recommend is talking to a local audio guy (in a local shop) who knows computers.

          2. Yes, in Lesson 2.

          3. Yes, when we get to the live video. And there's no reason to need expensive lighting. the new cameras balance light very well.

          4. Yes, definitely.

I promised myself I wouldn't pay for any other product because I'm working on the ones I have.

But video has been something I've been contemplating, but have no real idea how to create the type of quality I see.

And at $35, I guess I had to do it.

Plus the fact we're getting resale rights helped. So I think I'll be making some cash with that.

Can I pretend I created it and put it up as a WSO?

It couldn't come at a better time either to be quite honest. I have been making many miserable attempts at doing video myself just over the last few days, so i'm really looking forward to what you have to teach.

            Hi Kevin,

I have a few questions please...

            1) Will we be able to download all the materials from the workshop on to our computers?

            2) Will you teach us this?
I need to learn how to create videos that will be burned on to DVD's that will have individual "chapters" or "tracks" you can choose at the beginning just like the "tracks" you can see and select when you first put a commercial movie DVD into your DVD player?

            3) Will you teach us how to put cool backgrounds like you mention on your sales page using Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express?

            4) Will you be teaching us the best formats/settings to use for videos that will be burned to DVD (highest quality I presume)...AND...uploaded to video sharing sites like Youtube.com?

            5) Will you be showing us the best sources for getting our DVD's copied and created with professional labels?

            6) Will we learn how to create professional looking videos using budget cameras like the Kodak Z18 and get recommendations for good quality sounding microphones?

            Thanks

              1. No. I've always made it a policy to protect every member's investment in these Workshops by maintaining the value of the final product. No digital, sorry. However, you can access all lessons for a min of 6 months on the forum.

              2. That's a simple TOC choice when rendering videos in Camtasia.

              3. This will not be a Final Cut workshop. I'm keeping this Workshop accessible to more Warriors by not using software like that. I have it, and the learning curve is steep.

              4. Yes

              5. This is more about the videos, but those kinds of questions can be well covered in the Q&A of the Workshop.

              6. Yes

Since I don't use those, you'd best ask a Mac user. I would believe that other than some of the mechanics of the software, the stuff in this Workshop can easily be used on other video editors.

    RR,

I can't speak for Kevin on this one regarding how effective his course will be for those with slow computers, but I can tell you from experience that slow computers and video are not a good match.

I had to move up to an Core i7 920 chip just to handle the load my video software puts on my system. That and a monster graphics card.

Oh, and I've noticed that you don't really talk about things like list building, making money with our videos, getting traffic, etc. in your sales letter. Are all those things covered, and if so, when?
Sorry. Missed it. Oops. The hamster in charge of monitoring this thread got into the fermented seeds again.

Having a slow computer is annoying, but it will work. I used to do Camtasia videos on my old monster. That computer is still here and it actually clanks and wheezes in winter.

Watching the lessons themselves should be fine. They are highly compressed mp4, served up on Cloudfront for quick delivery.

As for the other stuff. Yes, it is covered when we do the promo video work later in the Workshop. Although, I won't be going over the details of setting up an Aweber list or such (this is a video course)

If you have a Warrior username with numbers in it, my shopping cart cannot accet numbers in the name field. Instead, enter your username with all alpha characters.

For example: "expo223" ==> "expo two two three"

Then, you can use the regular username to register at the Workshop forum (ie: "expo223")

Just a quick note - This workshop is only $35 - that's a steal for the info Kevin will be providing. My assessment is based on the other products and workshops of his that I have purchased in the past.

I see lots of folks asking for very specific info, and while I can understand the angst of just not knowing what you don't know (and not being sure if you will get what you need), I can assure you that the basics are the basics. Once you learn about video in general, it's not terribly difficult to make the transfer of knowledge to the specifics of your own system. It *will* require you to learn your tools, though, so you can apply what you've learned.

I can also assure you that Kevin spends considerable time creating his lessons. They are detailed, thorough, well thought-out. I have yet to find any product of his that wasn't top notch and worth far more than he charged for it. I am very picky, having been in the training field for over 20 years, so I do not give out that kind of praise lightly. Kevin creates products I would be proud to call my own (and I guess with the resale rights, I will almost be able to here <grin>).

With all that in mind, this is NOT a $1997 product, so keep your expectations in line. Just be glad he's running the workshop, and is only charging a pittance for it!! I have paid much higher prices for video and film courses, and I'm betting his will provide a more comprehensive value.

Of course that $35 does make me wonder what he's paying the hamsters, and if they will rise up to strike for higher wages???

        Warriors,

There are only a few hours left to sign up for this workshop. Please don't miss it. There are still those who regret having missed Kevin's previous workshops, and while you can still purchase those courses on DVD, there is nothing like having Kevin 'live' - as well as the help, support, contagious enthusiasm, and creative ideas of an engaged, interactive community.

There are already 420 members signed up for this course. Yes, 420!!! We are the lucky ones, but you can be, too - it's not too late (yet!).

The next five weeks will be an incredible journey, and an unparalleled learning experience. To my knowledge, Kevin does not repeat these workshops - so now is your opportunity. Four hours from now, it will be too late.

Hope to see you in 'class'!

        - Kat

P.S. This message will self-destruct in four hours.

What a dope! In such a hurry to register, I typed in my real name at the forum. (Looks embarassed and very apologetic.)

    Edit:
Just checked, and I'm in. Thank you, Kevin!

No problem. You were found by your name.

We've now got 470 registered in the forum, and over 500 who ordered it. It's going to be another great Workshop.

Yea, but the ad is still up.

Now you're just rubbing it in...

Around 600 people took advantage of this offer including myself, so this should be a very instructive workshop with so many Warriors in attendance.

                Let the fun begin...

Didn't sign up (going through Video Boss at the moment so didn't want information overload on video), but I would be very interested in purchasing the DVD-ROM of this program when it is available.

Got a bit ill, fell asleep, woke up and the offer had passed. Really disappointed...

When's your next video course? Next year? Ha ha....

    Too bad, so sad.

Kevin, I haven't been able to access the video production lab workshop since yesterday and I don't see anything posted about it. Is the site down?

BIG Mike, that may be the issue because I keep getting a "server not found" message and "...can't find the server..." whenever I try to open it in my browser (tried Firefox and IE).

        Thanks for the update.

Actually, the site was only down for an hour two days ago. With the number of people in the forum, we exceeded limits at HostGator. They moved the forum to dedicated hosting, and all's been fine since. Please try again, and also do a refresh on your browser just in case.

Kevin, just tried again and refreshed and cleared cache and rebooted and verified internet connection, etc but keep getting server not found message. I'll keep trying including later tonight when less people may be in the forum.

Kevin, I tried one last trick, which worked. Flushed modem (again) but this time rebooted into safe mode disabling security programs which reset dns eliminating server error I was getting for the workshop site. When I rebooted again in normal mode, all was fine. I'm a day behind so, time to play catch-up!

I can't access the site either - 'server not found'. Just tried in Internet Explorer in case there was some session/ caching etc issue jinxing it with Firefox, but no joy.

Perhaps - hopefully - there is just some delay before the domain points to the new servers for everyone, even in darkest England? I'm pretty hazy on how propagation works...

If you could send out emails with information about what's available when, where, that would be great.

Same here. Last night I was getting that error so I cleared my cookies and cache and was again able to get in... unfortunately today I can't get in after clearing out my cookies and cache. I tried getting in on another computer in the house and still no dice.

E-mail was broadcast to all forum members via the e-mail you used to register, a few days ago. Sorry about the access difficulties. Unfortunate that we had to move servers in the middle of this, but we had to or go bust. Clearing cache and cookies has worked well for anyone having access problems since the move.

It's working for me now. Nothing to do with caching, cookies et al - the site just wasn't available from our part of the world, but now it is. Propagation time, maybe?
