Very excited to begin! But where do I start?

I am so stoked!

I have my domain name with the specific keyword I want to target. Let's say the keyword I want is "My Specific Keyword," my domain is my-specific-keyword . com. Exact keyword with hyphens.

I am in the process of writing a free e-book on 'my specific keyword'. It's a very popular topic these days. Hype growing rapidly. Very sellable topic.

There are 100,000 specific Google searches per month for 'My Specific Keyword'.

If all of that wasn't good enough: The #1 spot in Google is only Page Rank 3! The rest are only Page Rank 2! (That's good, right?)

One problem ... I don't know where to go from here!

I figure I will have to,
  1. Distribute my e-book.
  2. Distribute free articles linking back to site.
  3. Figure out something to sell for profit.
I am passionate about the keywords I've chosen; I will have absolutely no problem writing quality content (I'm somewhat of an expert in this niche already). So, here are my questions:
  • If you were in my shoes, what would you do?
  • Is 100k monthly Google searches good enough to get usable (profitable) traffic?
  • Do E-Books work for marketing anymore?
  • Should I try to sell a product or attempt to profit via adsense?
  • Any other ideas?
I will help you in any way possible for your help on this. I am a journalistic writer and very knowledgable in WordPress as well as CSS/HTML/Photoshop. The creation will be no problem; the marketting will be the trouble for me. Learning something new every day about SEO, backlinks, etc.

Thanks, thanks, and more thanks! You all have been utmost helpfl thus far and I shall inevitable return the favor with freebies. I'm all for giving back =)

    Good stuff on taking action.

So you say you've got the domain name sorted. I presume you have the hosting covered too.

After you are done writing this ebook and as you have mentioned you have no problems writing stuff I'd suggest the following.

    - build a blog on your-keyword.com
    - Blog post twice a week.
    - write as many articles as possible and submit them to the most popular articles directories.
    - make sure your articles are keyword rich too.

    Basic Monetizing

    - Sign up to clickbank.com and paydotcom.com
    - have their widgets and products around it
    - Search these portals for relevant products and use their tools such as banners and the sort with your affiliate links. Review these products on your Blogs
-Sign up to adsense and place that on the Blog.

    Lead Generation

    - Sign up to an auto responder and have your opt-in form on the Blog
    - Write follow up emails to market products to your list
-Start adswaps with people in your niche

That my friend is a very basic marketing blueprint but is enough to start earning you cash.

    Hope it helps.
    Maddi.

      Excellent! Very good advice.

I can easily create the blog, no problem. I can easily write 2-3 posts per week, as well. As well as churning out articles. Like I said, I'm passionate about this and create some head-turning content. I already do this on health forums, for free!

      Follow up questions:
      • Is there a place that lists the 5-10 best article submission directories?
      • Affiliated sales vs. pay-per-click adverts. What is better? (Or both?)
      • How hard is it to out-rank a PageRank 3 site? This such site has little-to-no updates, just a sitting money-making-monstrosity it seems.
Maddi, it's nice to meet you. I'm Jason. I'll be checking out your blog =)

    Hi Jaspry.

    Congratulations on taking action, but...

Have you done your market/keyword research properly?

PageRank doesn't mean anything about the competition of your keyword.

Perceptive question! What do you mean by proper keyword research? Let's say my keyword was 'muscle growing supplement', a fitting correlation to my keyword. It's a sellable product and has current hype. To research this product, what actions would I take?

        Hi Jaspry,

Here are some things to help you determine if you are on the right track:

        Keyword Research: Weak Competition?

PageRank does not mean anything about the competition.

Backlinks are what you want to research. Check the amount of backlinks in the Top 10 results. If you think you can beat them, it's a good opportunity. Also check if there are any authority websites in the results. It's hard to compete with authority websites (although not impossible).

        Market Research: Profitable Keyword?

Do you see any Adword ads for your keyword?
Are there more than 3 related products?
        Is your target visitor desperate?
        Is your target visitor passionate?

I am new to a lot of this too and share in your excitement-yay us! hehe. I too am looking at two specific projects I feel will really sell well with today's economy. Here are the thoughts I am working on...........speaking of your e-book I am thinking of putting one together myself in my chosen niche and I really thought turning it into an affiliate product would be a great idea. Someone stop me if I am wrong it just seemed to me that using places like Clickbank and similar sites would have a better possible chance of getting sales quickly and allowing me to focus on the product. What do you think?

Selling an ebook via clickbank, paydotcom or similar sites is actually quite good as affiliates can simply search the marketplace and promote your product without you having to contact them or stuff like that so yea if the product is in a competitive market, there is a strong chance that you'll get plenty of affiliates.

And it doesn't take rocket science to see that difference between having the product on paypal or the likes of clickbank as for paypal you'd have to promote the product yourself and get affiliates and stuff like that.

Where as with clickbank you don't really have to work hard in that area although you can but its upto you. HIH

      --------------

Its nice to meet you too Jaspry and all the best with your product.

I covered this is my new, soon to be released product but here's how.

Step 1: Download "SeoQuake" plugin (Firefox add-on).

    Step 2: Activate the plugin.

Step 3: Go to Google and just search like normal.

Step 4: Check the amount of backlinks reported by Yahoo!

That's the fast way, but basically, just submit the links of the top results to Yahoo! Site Explorer and you'll see their backlinks.

Hope I wasn't too vague, just ask if you don't understand any part.

    Thanks Shaun,
    Very helpful.

Jason, I hope you are getting the help you need & we haven't hijacked your plea for help!

I don't understand about page rank either, but I figured 2 is not as good as 8 !

I read authority sites like Wikki etc are no goes to try & "bump off", but one of these expert SEO kids said that also means good stuff is lacking for page 1, so try & get up there because not everyone wants to navigate thru Wikki.

I read also, if e-zine linked info is there on page 1 of Google it means they are short of website content & put an article on to bring you something relevant, so it's apparently easier to "knock them off" with great content on your informative & value packed web page...

That's the lingo that the young kids doing all this super uber geeky stuff use!

I hope I read it right.

    Greetings all -

I've had some trouble with too many Firefox plugins. If you're having the same problems, go to https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com, input the URL you're checking and press the Explore button. The results will include the number of pages and the number of backlinks, and if you click on the backlinks button you have the option to 'Show Inlinks except from this domain'. Voila - external backlinks for the site. It isn't as sweet as the plugin link from Shaun Lee, but it worked for me.

Wicked site. Thanks so much! It is so easy to do quick research and find out if you can dominate the other sites that are ranking.

Yes SiteBuildIt is definitely a great program, but it is a long term kind of thing. SEO takes a lot of time, and she wants to be able to promote her ebook quick.

What is the supply? How many results in brakets? "Your Keyword Phrase"?

It doesn't matter if there are many searches, but if the competition is tremendous, it may be tough. Also, take a good look at your competitors, analyze top 20 in each of your keywords.

Ebooks are fine - you can write one to get people to sign up for your list and give it away for free or you can establish yourself as an expert and produce a higher quality ebook to sell from your site (and on Clickbank).

I am always in favor of my own products, because I'm not dependent then on other people's changes, coding problems, etc.

Create great content, distribute articles to the best article directories only, get high quality .edu and .gov links back and keep checking your ranking for every one of your keywords regularly.

And just keep creating content that is better, higher in quality than your compeitors. Ideas for your own products will come to you in this process.
