I thought I knew adwords

I am getting some really bad keyword relevance scores and it shocks me because I am being very picky with my keywords. For example, If I were to make one ad group in a campaign about dog training I would only have a few keywords like this:

"train my dog"
"dog training"
"dog training tips"

and then my ad would be something like this

How To Train My Dog
Learn Dog Training Today
Vital Dog Training Tips Just $9.99
vvv.fake-site.com

Despite this, I get a 4/10 keyword relevance score which makes the costs expensive.

I need help understanding what I am doing wrong and how I can fix it.

    Google just needs the money more than you. I have notice the same thing. I suspect it is a prelude to canceling the account altogether. Use Bing

        What about keywords on your landing page? I thought that the QS was the keyword targeted and how optimized the landing page is towards the keyword targeted.

    Have you tried making changes to your landing page (and site in general)? That could be your problem.

    Before you leave adwords, with that particular example I would try removing
    'train -- dog'.

    If your group is dog training, then only use phrases with 'dog training' in them.
    Also, the thing about keyword relevance, "last I knew," is it also encompassed
    the destination page, as well.

    So it's a flow of relevance that includes your ad group keywords, ad keywords,
    and the keywords targeted/predominant on your destination page.

    Be sure your destination keywords/phrases are relevant to your campaign.

      I am not currently doing adwords. But from all the things I've read, here and
      there, the safest thing to do if it's practical for you to do is to optimize your
      landing page for each ad group. I know, it's a pain and not everyone wants to
      do it.

      I don't know how many ad groups you have. What I used to do is give each
      ad group it's own landing page. Like this:

      Ad group 1: the destination is domain dot com/dogtraining.html

      Ad group 2: domain dot com/traindogtips.html

      Then I would optimize page title, meta keywords, description, H1, content, and
      any graphics via alt tags.

      That always worked very well for me and my Q scores were always very high.
