First thing a Newbie should try? (Advice needed)

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and I'm really impressed with all the content here. I just purchased access to the Private forum and downloaded a couple of ebooks.

But the problem is that I'm really overwhelmed with all the different ways of making money online. Also, since I'm a student and dont have a lot of money I can't try everything out. But, since I am recovering from a surgery I have tons of time to spend making money online

So to get to the point,

What do you guys (who have been successfully making money online) suggest us newbies to get started in that doesn't require a lot of money to make our first couple of bucks?

Thanks and I'm looking forward to reading all the repies

I would suggest you find one way of making money and one way of driving traffic to that money making web presence and stick with it.

If you're going to make money from affiliate products and drive traffic with articles, then do just that and don't waver.

Create a plan and stick with it, and don't get unfocused by the promises of something better or faster. Master that skill, and when you've pushed it all the way to the limit consider other methods.

I have seen alot of people recommending the 30 day marketing challenge here on the warrior forum. As you can see from this thread, you are not alone:

It's free, and I have only come to hear about it recently, so I have only recently signed up myself to see what it is all about, otherwise I would have a better description here for you about it, but it's free.

Once you sign up you will see that there are a set of things for each day, which do not cost you money to use. It should help get you started easily and effectively.

Thanks for all the replies, and I will looking into all the suggestions I understand everyone is good at something different, so there's no perfect program for anyone.

As for me I own a couple (actually to many , spent the money I had on domains thinking I could easily resell them) domains and like creating website, so I will looking into creating niche sites and selling affiliate products.

        Hi Mrt,

I am also a relative newbie and suffered for a long time from the kind of information overload you are talking about, and tried too many things and too many courses.

Recently, I found a membership website run by a guy called Chris Farrell, which teaches you, mainly by video and in incredible, fool-proof detail, exactly what to do to start and run a web-based business. It is so good that I have decided to unsubscribe from pretty much all the other courses etc. I was on and focus just on his. It costs about $27 a month, and you get literally tons of free stuff from it to help you.

        ChrisFarrellMembership.com

The site got the top rated site of the week ranking on IM Report Card

I urge you to have a look at his site. I am sure you will find it of value even if you don't sign up: you can check out a lot of his teaching videos without even opting in to his email list.

I did the 30 Day Challenge last year and it really is good. Ed and Dan really know their stuff and they really give you an excellent beginner education for free. There are some pitches for some high priced stuff, but you certainly do NOT have to buy anything to have success with their program. Follow their steps to a tee and you will make money. And more importantly, you will gain alot of knowledge that will help you get going in other directons on your own.

I just signed up after hearing about it in the other thread I listed. I have never heard about it again, and although I am doing fine in the internet marketing world, this course is free, and there may be some tools in there which I have not heard of either that I can use.

So I joined to see what it's all about. I think it's good to know about these kinds of things, and also to know how they work and what they offer.

First thing is to pick a system, and then work that system.

Lots of free information and systems available. Especially in the War Room.

Pick a monetization method like affiliate products, CPA, make your own product or whatever.

Pick a traffic / marketing / sales strategy. Articles, videos, forums, social bookmarking....then just go do it.

I could go into a lot of details and strategies but there are so many good threads and free WSOs here so I'd find one and go do it consitently.

Another option is selling a service, provided you can offer something that someone wants. Articles, links and SEO services are popular.

You can start promoting them in your signature and once you have a couple of sales then you could pay for a WSO or WF classified.

For a newbie with little to no income here's what I'd suggest.

    1. Find a niche
    2. Good keyword research within your niche
    3. Set up some Web 2.0 websites around your keywords.
    4. Backlinks, Backlinks, Backlinks
    5. Write keyword rich articles and submit them to directories like ezinearticles.

There's lots of free information on how to accomplish all of the above on this forum. All of the above can be done for free

One final note, pick something and stick with it. Stay focused until you succeed. You haven't failed until you give up.

It's impossible for any of us to tell you what you should do, because none of us know you from Adam.

Take some time and think about what you're good at, and what you enjoy doing.

To get you started, here are some of the more important IM skills:

    Salesmanship
    Website design
    Writing (books)
    Writing (articles)
    Programming
    Analysis
    Social networking

That's off the top of my head - I'm sure there are many more.

If you can make it clear where your strengths lie, you'll get some brilliant answers about how to make the best of those qualities.

I'll second (or third or fourth) the advice that you should find a course or program and stick with that one! There are lots of really really good programs out there so many that a newbie can get overwhelmed (trust me on that one). Pick a program and then get familiar with a keyword research tool. There are lots of those too. I like Micro Niche Finder. Lots of other people like Market Samuri. Point is, pick one and get really good with it!

    Good luck.

In my opinion, the fastest and easiest way to make money online is to write articles for others. If you can show you can write decent articles at a good price, you can even make a post here in the Warriors for Hire section for your services.

The best part is that you get paid instantly for your work. On the other hand, if you don't enjoy writing that much you can possibly become burnt out from doing so much writing.

    Hello there.

My advice to you is to set up a blog. Anybody that has access to the Internet can start to earn or make online money by creating their own blog. Most blogs are hosted on free webspace, with a free URL domain name. Therefore they are completely free to set up. This is partly the reason that there are so many blogs on the Internet at the moment; they are free and so quick to set up and use. Within a few minutes anyone can have their own blog online and up and running. Before you can start making any kind of money from blogging you will need to create some interesting, unique content to use on the blog itself. Try and be completely original and try and focus on a specific topic, otherwise you will find that your blog is one of many in an already highly saturated market.

    Good luck to ya

    Start with something small.

I suggest you learn Pay-Per-Click and Market research. If you do that you can make money everytime as PPC is a skill for life and you get traffic the second you switch on your campaigns. This allows you to be fast and flexible in markets that are subject to constant change.

      Hi mrt209,

First of all know your outcome!

Before you even start with any method or product, know exactly what you actually want to achieve. How much money do you want to make doing online marketing. Be very specific, what is the exact amount of money that you want to be making in 1 month from now, in 6 months from now and in one year from now.

More importantly, what do you want to get for that money. Money by itself won't do you any good. Makes no sense to have 100k in your Paypal account if you don't do anything with it. So what is the exact lifestyle that you want to have being financially free. What car do you want to drive, when do you want to get up, what house do you want to live in, how many hours do you want to work, where do you want to live, where do you want to travel to and how often.

Be very specific and get a clear picture of what you actually want and how much it would cost you. Clarity is power. Once you actually know what you want, you know what you will be working for and you hopefully will be driven to take massive action consistently.

      Secondly, take massive action.

Once you know what you want, it's time to take MASSIVE action. Before you even start your computer, make sure that you know what task you want to get done in the time being online. Write two to three tasks down and work on them for 90-120 minutes and then take a break and so something that has nothing to do with Internet Marketing. Go for a walk, spend time with your family, work out etc.

Also make sure that you close your email account and instant messengers and turn off your cell phone. Be focused and try not to get distracted, don't even be connected to the internet if possible.

If you are starting out with Internet Marketing, you might want to start with Affiliate Marketing. It's an easy way to get started because you don't have to create your own product right from the start and you don't have to know how to set up the payment processor, how to write copy, how to deliver the product and so forth.

A great place to learn how to do it the right way is the Thirdydaychallenge.com and you should also check out Chris Farrel's Membership site. Both of them do an outstanding job teaching you the basics the right way.

Once you are done with that, you should sign up for the Thirty Day Challenge Plus. Here you will understand that the real money is in product creation. Look at all the super successful Internet Marketers, they all have their own products and there is a reason for that.

Eventually you don't want to be the one writing articles, creating squidoo lenses, doing keyword research, spying on competitors, learning about all the Google changes and so forth, you want to be on the other side. You want to have a product online that is getting promoted by your affiliates.

Affiliates will do all the hard work and they will get your traffic and customers and they will spend all the time doing all these tedious tasks I just talked about.

Creating your own (great) product takes more time and more skills but it's well worth it. Start with Affiliate Marketing and once you got that down and you mastered the basics, get into product creation!

      Model Successful People

Taking action alone isn't enough. If you take action on the wrong things it can take you forever to succeed.

Make sure that you first look for people that already achieved what you want to achieve. Look for marketers that are super successful and then try to model them and try to find out how they run their business, try to find out what drives them and how they got to where they are now.

Try to pick the best marketers out there, don't settle for less. Do your research, find out who's really kicking butt out there and then follow them.

If you have the money, get a mentor. He can hold you accountable and if he's good at what he's doing he can help you succeed much faster. He can provide you with his experience and tell you what's really working and more importantly prevent you from doing beginner mistakes.

There you have it, that's my advice if you're just starting out.

Know your outcome, take massive action and model the best.

      Cheers,
      Mario

There are some good tips here. What I've learned over the years is that you should focus on just one or very few sites and build them. I mean the content and backlinks.

Now it's really easy to start a blog with actually not knowing HTML. I suggest you use Wordpress hosted on your own web host. Find a topic people are interested in (and it helps you're passionate about it too - but this is not always a condition) and start posting. Add some monetization like AdSense and/or affiliate products links and build backlinks to your sites. It's a super simple formula. If you don't know what to write/post about, there are tons of ideas here at WF.

        I hope it helps.

IMHO, it's easier to market a niche with a topic your interested in. That helps keep you motivated, especially in the beginning since it will take you some time to earn money and if your personally interested in your niche, you more likely to stay the course.

I agree that you will have an easier time staying on track of you choose a niche that you are interested or even better passionate about. Just keep in mind that you want to make money after all, so make sure that it's a mega niche like gaming, health, make money, biz op, fitness and so forth.

      Go where the money is.

Focus on making your first dollar so it becomes real for you.

Man, I still remember my first dollar online. Over 2 years ago and it was accumulation of 3 adsense clicks coming to a whopping total of $1.09. I went out and bought a dollar burger near my house and it felt amazing. While I was eating the burger I kept thinking " holy sh*t, my business paid for this.". Havent looked back since.

I do not think it's wise to recommend a product which COSTS MONEY to new members, or those who are new to internet marketing in the first place. That is the WRONG kind of way for them to start off, and many do not even have the means to purchase a product to begin with.

I was recommending a trainer who has years of experience doing business online successfully, if he keeps going on his own without getting himself a good mentor he will end up between the teeth of someone who will making pay 100000 times for the training he did not get, trust me.

You could set up a review blog or a squidoo page, send traffic to it with articles and start making sales that way unless you have a domain name in which you could start creating articles and send there.

Stay true to your passion...work on one marketing strategy at a time, get really good at it and then learn somemore....It always helps whenever you learn something new to teach others about it too. You will become an expert in no time.

Be confident, focused and determined and dont ever give up.

    Good Luck
    Beth :-)

I can only add that every thread on here has excellent advice, all very valid, but you get to choose the way forward! Sometimes the hardest part is just deciding which method to use and then GO DO IT! Don't look left or right, there will always be a million other shiny opportunities out there to tempt you, just make a plan and follow through! When you have successfully done it once, you simply rinse and repeat, simples!

    Good luck, Helen

I agree that starting a blog is the way to go and the 30 Day Challenge is probably the best FREE training out there for newbies. The amount of stuff they cover can be overwhelming, but stick to it and with time you'll see results. Notice that I said "with time", since Internet Marketing does take time and perseverance to succeed.

You can get a FREE web hosting account with one-click WordPress installation at FreePassHost.com. So all you'll have to spend money on is a domain name and you'll be good to go.

    Good luck!
