Which Wordpress Theme?

Hi,

Well, been hovering on this forum, reading, reading, and reading and finally got off my a$$, got a keyword, webhosting, installed wordpress.

But I don't know what theme to pick or where I can get it from. I downloaded the Prosense-Blue ( doshdosh.com/prosense-adsense-ready-seo-theme ) Theme but after installing if, I was missing the stylesheet (not sure what that is since I'm new to this).

So what is a good theme to use? I'm planning on using adsense, and an affiliate. I want to display many items from the affliliate on the first page, write an article or 2 about it and then create more pages. Each page will have a group of related items.

I also read it should be SEO opptimized, support widgets, etc.

Any theme suggestions....

  • When I started out, I used blogger. It is a lot easier to use and there are tons of nice looking templates available for free. No problems getting blogger blogs ranked either (they do just as well as WP blogs as far as I am concerned.) Just a thought.
  • Yeah, I have a blog also, but this time I went out and bought a webhosting package and I'm using wordpress as the website creating software....so I'm looking for a theme..

If you are looking for a free theme i would go with cutline or the coppyblogger theme
cutline theme can be found here Cutline 3-Column Theme Now Available

coppyclogger theme can be found here The Copyblogger Theme for WordPress | Copyblogger

    Hope this helps.
  • Don't know what you like - or more importantly what you want to present to your VISITORS - so your best bet is going to the source:

    WordPress › Free WordPress Themes

It's all free - and many themes are user rated with feedback on how they work (or don't.)

Once you get the theme set up, search Google for "All in One SEO" Wordpress plugin. It's free too - let's you do all your onsite SEO from one interface.
  • Thanks for the quick replies!!!

I have the SEO plugin already....So can I use any theme that I like, and together use it with this plugin?

What's the difference between themes that say SEO optimized and ones that don't?

This is all new to me...hence the many questions I have..

    • Simple. It means you did NOT upload all the files of the theme to your server. If it says in the admin panel that it's missing the stylesheet: make sure ALL the files from the downloaded theme went up to your host server:
      wp-content/themes/your-theme/

A common mistake: when you unzipped the theme package on your computer, it created a "double" folder, like /prosense/prosense/

If that's the case, you need to upload ONLY the folder where the files are!

99.99% of the cases - Yes. (the unlikely 0.01% is due to idiot theme authors or bad plugins...)

Very few of them are really optimized for search engines. It's more like a trendy thing to say so - don't have to always believe it. It's true, some theme authors know code, and they know how to code their themes so the search engines (SE) "like" it, while others suck. Very few theme authors are good coders AND good designers in the same time.

As you spend more and more time with WP and themes and plugins... you will learn
  • You made a good choice in themes if you are using adsense. The Dosh Dosh blue theme is perfect and made for adsense. It is a good clean theme. You will be happy with it.

So follow what Istvan suggests and get your theme on.
  • Istvan Horvath,

You hit the nail on the head with the stylesheet problem!! It unzipped 3 folders deep. Uploaded the files again, and presto!!!

Thanks again everyone...I'm off creating my website.

  • I like using the K2 Theme. I have also used Arthemia Free. ThemeForest.net has a lot of reasonably priced premium templates.

I also like the Thesis Theme and WPRemix. Although, I haven't used them yet.

You can google any of these Theme Names and find them. I hope this helps.
