What is the future of website traffic?

Technology and the internet is changing so rapidly that I just have to wonder. What is the future of website traffic? In 5 years time will people still use article marketing or email marketing?

Some people think the future of marketing lies in mobile phones.

I think sites like facebook will still skyrocket. Social networking is becomming so huge. I wonder what is next...

Mobile phone traffic, video traffic, and social networking like facebooking are things that will definitely increase, in my opinion.

In my opinion, a lot of the future traffic will be viral. With social networks growing fast and word of mouth becoming a popular way to market. But on the other hand, the ad market is also growing by leaps and bounds; so you never know.

Video Marketing will increase... and i think social networking will become more important than it is now..
    Mobile phones, definitely.

I'm not too sure what drawbacks/advantages could computing will bring though... and cloud computing is going to be a reality soon

I dont think anything will CHANGE. People might try new models and sources of traffic like Facebook, but it's all down to the quality of the traffic.

Search engine traffic (SEO/PPC) still dominates, so there won't be any dramatic changes in the TYPE of traffic that most people are demanding.

      I agree that.

Maybe facebook/twitter/etc dies in some years, who knows... but search engines will be ALWAYS there Logically, other social networks or any new project will born, but I think that all them are seasonals. (my opinion.. )

I would definitely disagree with that statement. Things are always changing, especially with the internet. That's the beauty of it. Yes, the principles will remain the same, but the methods that are used will vary.

I strongly believe that the internet is becoming more social. People are spending more and more time on Facebook and twitter daily and they have become very powerful marketing tools. SEO and PPC are still strong and might continue to be strong, But social media plays a bigger role today than it did 5 years ago. That's obviously a significant change, and there's no reason to think it won't continue to change over time.

One fact is that social bookmarking sites are changing daily. The most popular ones get overtaken almost daily by newer and more popular ones. My advice - dont keep all your eggs in one basket.

      I agree.

"search" is key.... when I have an issue with spyware for example... I'm not going to log into facebook to find an answer... sure I could post it and someone will give me a link... but chances are they went somewhere like google to search for an answer for me.

Oh you never know. All it would take is a sudden improvement in hologram technology that can't work with html pages and suddenly a huge hunk of the internet isn't worth anything.

I don't believe social networking can take the place of the search engine. They are two different things.

The world is going to end December 21, 2012, so it doesn't really matter :p

But seriously, I don't think that there are going to be many big changes. I think that social marketing will become more important.

Of course, good content will always rule.

I think mobile is definately going to be huge and the social networks are not going anywhere thats for sure. people will continually find new ways to tap into markets and many new pioneers will emerge.

What will not change though is the fact that quality content is rewarded. People are becoming more fussy and attention spans are becoming shorter (hence videos becoming so popular).

There are many avenues now that are still in their infancy like proper content syndication and video. Take advantage of what we have now and never stop learning and adapting.

I think the social networks will ensure that branding yourself will become essential. There are so many new emerging networks that offer amazingly priced advertising space with thousands of viewers and as more and more come out the opportunities will be even greater. The key will be to tap into the psyche of these sites.

For example, people are on social networks for fun not to buy stuff but look at what some of the more savvy companies do in terms of branding themselves with viral ads.

Exciting times ahead and countless ways to make fortunes.

Haha yes the world will end in 2012.
It will be like Y2K all over again. Too funny how the end of an era is interpreted as the end of the world. Wonder if its it too sick to be cashing in on it.

New traffic methods will come and the existing methods will improve. Article marketing, forum marketing etc is around from the last more than 5 years and is still a strong medium of getting quality traffic so they are definetily going to be strong in the future also.

Article marketing and email marketing will survive.

Facebook advertising will continue to grow and only grow in cost.

Social media marketing can be effective, but not so much for the mass marketer.

And mobile marketing will be another channel opening to marketers, but mobile marketing will remain somewhat expensive as well in coming years.

As more generations get online, the market will be overcrowded with customers - Where there are customers there will be new businesses. The domain name market will take a massive growth as less domains are available. But the customers will want a simple answer and go to big companies and tell others by word of mouth and leave smaller websites in the dust.
