Facebook vanity URL problem!

I have a bit of a problem, I registered my website name for a Facebook fanpage and built up the required 20 fans in order to secure a vanity URL. I knew that someone else was using the same user name (even though I own the dotcom) but I wanted to register the username so that people could find the page easily if they did a search. I thought it was possible to choose your vanity URL if it wasn't available as per your username? It seems that this is not the case with Fan pages though. FB say that is will be possible to assign vanity URL's "in the future" but this could mean anything. Does anyone have any info on when this is likely to be? It was a real pain to secure 20 fans from my list because I am in the middle of a major rebrand behind the scenes and don't want to let the cat out of the bag... so is my only option to contact all of these fans with an apology and a fresh link to a whole new page that will have an available vanity URL?
I'm pretty pissed about this because it looks like even though I can register my profile as my brand I can't actually get a vanity URL to go with it (eg Profile name: MyBrand Vanity URL facebook.com/mybrandusers). If I have to register another tweaked version in order to secure a vanity URL well that is going to make the page harder to find and will probably affect the SEO (a huge headache will be involved in trying to work the new vURL into the overall brand and marketing campaign). Anyone else out there experience this and manage a work around? Am I missing something very basic?

Are you saying the vanity url is already in use by someone else?

Sorry for the delay getting back to this and thanks for the reply. Yes, the vanity URL is being used by someone else. Both of our pages have the same name but they got the vanity URL before me. Now I can't set a vanity URL at all - I though I could add one that was different to the group name. The bummer is that the group name is the name of my brand, so now it looks like I cant have my brand name as a group name on Facebook becuase I won't be able to secure a vanity URL.

Vanity url's are on a first come first serve basis. If you didn't get it you won't.

I hate to hear you didn't get yours but there is nothing you can do.

Although, you can try adding numbers to the one you want and it might register then. I would at least try that before they start trying to charge you for a vanity url.

    Good luck!

    Facebook is a total nightmare.

The only way to get your unique vanity url is if you are a celebrity/big company who has some pulling power. If you are not you have little chance of getting your name unless you are willing to go the legal route. That does work if you have your name trademarked.
