Advice Regarding Building a Forum

6 replies
Hey Guys

I want to build a forum for a product I am lauching to act as a place for support and advice.

My question is for people who have actually built there own forum

What is the best option (preferably free or cheap)?

I only want a simple one, where i can not allow html etc in signatures, keep out spammers and which is easy to setup and maintain etc

Any advice?

    I personally prefer;

    Punbb.com
    smf forums

    Both are simple, many mods if you really want to add features.

    You can go with smf forums or phpBB forums.

    If you can work with Wordpress, I learnt there is a forum plugin you can instal. It is called bbpress. Never worked with it so I can't say how it is. Combining a blog and forum could be good advice.

    You can use phpBB or WordPress Plugin as suggested.

    I recently built a forum on vBulletin. Its the best but its not free.

    Unfortunately the building is the easy part!

    Start getting content and topics for discussion ready from even now, and you'll have a head start once it's built.

    For simplicity I would say Phorum. It looks decent and it's super simple.
