What's the One Piece of Advice?

Hello all,

I know there are some real experts on this board. I'm just getting started in Internet Marketing and I spend several hours a day reading through the threads here.

I'm wondering though, what's the one piece of information/ most important piece of information you'd want to impart to someone just getting started?

Many, many thanks!

    Hi Ben,

The best piece of advice I can give you is to make sure
that you strike a balance between learning and doing.

So, don't just read through the threads on this forum for
several hours or spend endless hours reading ebooks, etc.

Instead, choose ONE thing you most need to master, learn
a bit about it, and then TAKE ACTION on that information
    IMMEDIATELY.

This one tip will accelerate your growth more than almost
    anything else.

That's the lesson I wish I'd learned first years ago.

    Good luck.

    Dedicated to your success,

    Shaun

      Agreed.

There is such an overwhelming amount of information out there that I tend to get caught up in information.

      Many thanks for that advice.

My one piece of advice: Build A List.

Start today. Do something towards building a list, even if it's just buying the domain for your squeeze page.

  • After helping over 6,000 people start internet businesses and sell over $100 million online here is my best advice for you:

Choose your traffic strategy first--then build a business around the traffic you know you can generate.

I have seen hundreds of people come up with a great product, great sales process and then try to figure out how to get traffic. Most often they fail.

When someone begins by saying "hey, here's a place I can get a lot of traffic free (or cheap)" then builds a business to profit from that traffic they do well.

So whether it is Google, JVs, Adwords, FaceBook, Twitter, viral...whatever traffic channel you can leverage--investigate that first, then build your business.

    Never Give Up!

Help others before you try to sell them something. Meaning, left and right people are always trying to sell you something. Buy this buy that, half off today, 30% discount today and so-on. No-one ever really wants to help anymore. Everyone wants a quick buck for crap...

As someone starting off in this, this is something I agree with and have found.

I have also made the mistake of trying to run before I could walk and buy lots of ebooks only to find quite a few were over my head as a beginner.

My advice is to stick around, read through threads and gauge for yourself who to trust and who not to. Though my golden rule to date is this:

Just because someone releases something new and makes it sound amazing, and just because there are a lot of testimonials stating so, that doesn't mean that it is... Take what you read (even in testimonials) with a pinch of salt and don't worry about the special offers because if it is right for you, offer or not, it will still be worth pursuing.

That said, why not purchase my $5 ebook titled "The One Best Piece Of Advice In Starting Off In Marketing". I personally garuntee that you can not fail with this and you will be pleasantly surprised

Ben, the first thing you should do is organize yourself. Before starting anything you should set a goal, create a plan of attack and focus your attention at trying to achieve it. Now, as Shaun and MJ said, you need to get moving and get your plan rolling as you learn. If you wait until you read too many things you might find yourself overwhelmed with the amount of information you will encounter.

Another tip I can give you is DO NOT take everything you learn literally. Remember that what works for some may not work for others. It is imperative to apply what you learn to your specific needs and not get frustrated if it does not work for you in exactly the same method it worked for others. Everything is relevant... Do get ready to work hard, be persistent and be consistent. Do not be afraid to use the WF often for any doubts you may have. Good Luck!

Develop the art of discernment. Don't believe everything you read. People offer advice because they want to be helpful, but the advice they give may not be very good. Part of discernment is separating opinion from fact. Part is BS detection.

Other than that, make a step-by-step plan and then take action.

My advice to someone starting out in internet marketing..

Don't get distracted with information overload. This is a common mistake many newbies make.

They learn new techniques that work. Never put it into action. Then move onto learning the next 'big' internet marketing method. This can easily turn into a never ending cycle if you're not careful.

Take it one step at a time. When you learn a new marketing technique. Put it into action. If it works for you, continue tweaking it before you scale the technique.

Stay focused. It's easy to be distracted by methods. Stop, slow down.. take things one step at a time. Baby steps. It's the only efficient way to learn.

Focus on finding a niche that you're comfortable with (even better if you have a hobby or passion that you can base your niches around) because if you're passionate about something, you will do much better at it.

Fast track your success by finding a mentor. Someone who's done it before can show you the short cuts. Advise you on what you need to do and the best plan of attack.

Create an action plan - What steps are you going to take from A-B?

How do you intend to get there? What time frame do you have to work with? Consider these points.

Short term and long term goals. Make some! Let's call them milestones. They will help you evaluate your progress.

Never be afraid to try new things and make mistakes (hey we're all human after all) some of the pioneers made a lot of money in this game, by trying out new techniques and methods. They weren't afraid to experiment and neither should you be.

At first you'll probably lose a bit of money if you dive into expensive PPC campaigns... so opt for the long term option of creating free organic traffic, at first. Once you know how to design an effective website that converts, you are then ready for PPC (my opinion is that too many newbies try to get into Adwords PPC - which is a big mistake that could end up making you broke, fast).

Take your time. Rushing into internet marketing without a plan will give you a headache.

Have the appropriate mindset for success - how badly do you want this? Are you willing to put in the work?

Constantly evaluate, what works and what doesn't. Some methods will work well for some people, while for others, not so great. Find something you're comfortable with and roll with it (example; you may be an excellent writer - so you may opt to start off with article marketing etc.)

If at first you don't succeed - do not give up. Winners never quit, ever.

For me... Being Lazy and Make ton of money online is a good slogan to sell you the stuff
    by Gurus...

but I think to make real money, you have to have regular working hours, and you have
to work daily, and you have to work HARD... Yeah Massive Action... Good or bad...
you need to make many mistakes as soon as possible..start failed sites as soon as possible,
so you discover your winner project FAST...

Do not fail slow and lazy way... FAIL FAST... so soon you discover what does not work,
and so you only focus on what WORKS...then take that and stick to that... again Massive
Action in that project will bring you Tangible results you can be proud of.

    Best of Luck,
    Mohsin

Read. Learn. Do. Fail. Adapt. Do again. Fail. Adjust. Do again. Succeed.

    Simple, right?

A lot of people in here have it covered. Spend some time in here reading and learning. Very quickly you will learn who to filter out and who to listen to.

When you feel you have a BASIC grasp (not an expert level) of a system you like and want to implement - start working on it!

Waiting to have an advanced level of knowledge before starting, or starting but refusing to release until it's "perfect", are two MAJOR stumbling blocks on the path to success.

Once it's out there, get feedback. Feedback comes in all forms. No traffic is feedback. Find out where the failure is and adjust. Traffic but no conversions is also feedback. Find the breakdown and fix it. Refunds are feedback. Talk to your customers and see where the product is falling short for them.

Once you've gathered the feedback, make the adjustments. Learn more. Improve your systems.

All the while you've stayed focused on this ONE niche, and this ONE system of marketing, right? RIGHT?

Once you have your site, traffic, conversions and overall system tuned into a fine running machine, ONLY THEN should you venture into another niche.

But NOT another system. Why would you want to do that? You've devoted a lot of time to perfecting your current system and it works.

    Now it gets easier (finally)!

Rinse and repeat. With you knowledge and system in place, find another hungry niche, and plug it into the system you're using.

You've already worked out most of the bugs. Success will come MUCH faster now.

Daily consistent work and focus is the key to all of it. Best of luck to you!

    ~Mike

TAKE ACTION!!!... Seriously though, most people read method after method and never put anything into action. I did that for awhile, but the first month that I actually put one particular method into action I made well over $1,000 in PURE PROFIT.

Sure that is not a ton of money, but it was a heck of a lot better than making nothing. Only read and study a method if you have a desire to make it work. I used article marketing and SEO to generate traffic, because it was within my budget and I knew it would work.

Do not over extend yourself, and do not buy every "latest and greatest" course to hit the internet marketing scene.

I think a lot of times people starting out hesitate trying something, e.g. PPC, product creation, getting organic traffic, creating a membership site, etc., because they are afraid they aren't a guru or expert at it. But you've got to do your research, plan a course of action, and do it. There has got to be an action to get a result.

If you fail, ask yourself why you failed and make corrections.

And the big thing: Don't wait for perfection, it will never come. You have to look at your research, plan an attack, and go with it. There is no plan in politics, in warfare, in emergency medical treatment, in education, in anything that is perfect. Often you will have conflicting information to work with. You have to sort it out as best you can and take action.

When you look at the gurus out there--well, most of them will tell you that they have failed miserably at some point in their life. But they had the guts to continue and persevere--that's the key.

Like Big Mike said, put away your billfold for a while. You can learn more for free on this forum than you can shelling out thousand of dollars for a bunch of re-hashed flavor-of-the-month get rich ebooks. But if you do have a burning desire to spend some money, I'd think about getting into the War Room--it's a good investment.

    Good luck bud--Mike

From my own experience. Don't loose focus by buying too many products, even though we're all marketers and we will do our hardest to convince you that you absolutely need, simply must have every product you come across.

Not so. Do your research (warriorforum is perfect for that), start with ONE course and do not jump to anything else until you've seen some results and have tasted success, by then you will have a much better idea on what to do next.

Start taking action on the information you get.

Most people on this forum for 2 or 3 months already have more than enough knowledge to make a great income.

But only those who take action will be getting the results.

The amount of information you need to make a good living online is actually quite low.

It's the people who take action on the information they have and look for specific information with the intention of immediately taking action with it when they get it...those are the people who make the most money.

Once again, Warriors prove their know-how. Great job!

I don't have a lot to add, but believe the following is worth sharing.

"They" say you should learn from your mistakes. That is true, to some degree, but if you really want to succeed, learn from other people's mistakes, too!

You will still make plenty of your own mistakes, but avoiding other's mistakes will help you succeed quicker.
