PLR - How to check if not published already?

by smak
25 replies
Hi all

I have some PLR material that I intend to make use of by publishing it on web as articles or even just as normal web content.

My obvious fear is that this material may already have been used and published before by some other license holder.

So how can I check if this particular content has been published before on the net?? If it has, then obviously this material immediately loses its value. But if I will be the 1st one, then it could prove to be more than useful.

Thanks in advance for all the feedback.

Copy and paste the first sentence/paragraph
    in Google.

That'll usually give you your answer.

Copy/paste seems is probably the quickest way to check IMO.

In general, don't bother checking, because it already will
        have been published.

If the content was sold to anyone in addition to yourself
the chances are extremely high that somebody beat you
to the punch. if you want first dibs, get in contact with
PLR authors and offer to pay a premium to buy it before
anybody else. You'll quickly be able to ascertain if your
suppliers are honest following the methods described by
        above posters.

... but if you're hoping to get fresh, never-before-published
articles you can publish first for $1 apiece... keep dreamin'

But put it in "one sentence" and then search in google. This will give you accurate result.

I've done that for a couple of plr articles. Just out of curiosity I searched the first half of the first sentence of my latest article submission and to my surprise, the article I searched was already indexed. It came up as the first item and I only put that article up a couple of hours ago.

Another surprising thing is there were no exact matches for the article. There were many simular articles but no matches. This tells me that a lot of spinning is going on. It also tells me that if everyone else is spinning, why should I? I end up with the unique article anyway.

Before you are ready to publish your PLR articles, you'd better try to find the similar content through search engines. Or, your articles may be rejected.
For example, in EZA, the most popular article directory site, it is not allowed to publish the PLR content.

With PLR articles, you are certain to find out that the material has been used. After all, how many other people do you think bought the same PLR package? I'm pretty sure it would be lots of other people.
The trick to using PLR articles is to not use them as is, unless you put it in an email message. Rewrite the PLR article so that it becomes "unique content".

Take random sentences out of the articles and google them in quotes.

For example, here's the sentence I chose from the article:

To all writers and non-writers out there, now is the time to start digging up those creative writing skills back.
I googled that in quotes, just like this:

"To all writers and non-writers out there, now is the time to start digging up those creative writing skills back."
and here's what I came up with:

"To all writers and non-writers out there, now is the time to start digging up those creative writing skills back." - Google Search

So, I can see that this article has been published about 15,600 times and that's alot

If it's PLR it's been published unless you got exclusive rights, which is highly unlikely. If by chance you were first buyer and it wasn't already published, it soon will be anyway.

Don't bother checking, rewrite it and you'll have unique content you don't have to worry about.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Copyscape yet...

Plugging the first sentence or paragraph into Google may not be as sure a thing as
you might expect -- since the first paragraph generally gets rewritten more often
than the rest of the article...

And if you are one of the first to try to use it, you might not catch all the dupes.

BUT if you go to Copyscape.com and upgrade to premium, you get 100 searches
for $5 (last time I checked). Then plug in the entire article to check, and it will bring
up all the matches (or the main ones) it finds online.

And since copyscape is the tool that EZA and others use to check for duplicate
content, you might want to use it as well.

You might find that writing an article from scratch based on the info in the other
articles is less work than trying to rewrite an article until it passes Copyscape
without any reference to duplicate articles.

And as far as using PLR in article directories -- definitely don't even try to do that
in EZA -- not only will they reject the article, but they will ban you sooner or later.

I have no idea how often they will reject you before they ban you outright, but I
      wouldn't chance it.

      Just write your own...

      Elisabeth

Update: I just noticed Tom's reply that mentions Copyscape too -- I guess I took
too long to edit my own reply so he got his in before mine... Case in point. if you
try to publish PLR and THINK you're first, you may not be... Someone might come
in and publish their version before yours comes out...

There is a great online tool called Copyscape which does a pretty thorough check for duplicate content, IMO.

You can use the URL tool for free if you've already got the article published. But if you are looking for a quick copy & paste method then you'll have to use the Copyscape Premium which may sound fancy and expensive but costs a whopping 5 cents a search. That is well worth it if you are using any kind of PLR article, rewritten or not.

But you also have to understand that PLR articles are sold off to just about everyone out there. So if you think you've got the only unique copy then you're in for a real treat.

Like it or not, you're going to have to rewrite the article. Many people will tell you that it only needs to be re-written 30%-50% unique but Google is only getting better at filtering out the garbage out there.

So why not spend the extra 10 minutes to rewrite the entire thing so that you write something that will last instead of something that might work in the short term but get tossed in the dumpster later on?

Remember, if you want to be successful in this industry, then you have to build a business with a solid foundation. And you don't do that by cutting corners every chance you get.

    Cheers,

    Tom

Well PLR content is good for lazy people... I usually do not use them. Writing an article is much easier for me then pay money for something which is absolutely useless. Any way, if you looking for a great plagiarism checker I use a free one called "The Plagiarism Checker" Is a great tool to find duplicated content.

I can certainly understand where you're coming from - I prefer to write all my articles myself. But then, I AM in the PLR article-writing business, so I may be a bit biased.

That said, there are many (most?) people out there whose writing skills are somewhat less than stellar. They rely on PLR content to get them over the hump with regards to creating quality content for their blogs, sites, and so forth.

It's generally much easier to do a re-write of a PLR product than it is to come up with all that stuff from scratch, ya know?

A quality PLR article can be a real lifesaver for people struggling to get their creative juices flowing!

        Well said JV.

Although I'm a great advocate of unique and compelling content, I understand that busy internet marketers require a constant stream of quality content - and this can be very costly, time consuming or just down right 'too painful' to write for many of them.

PLR articles provide a good template to work from, especially when you have many websites and need to churn them out quickly. Remember, that PLR can also be used as email autoresponders and newsletters, where they will not be tracked as duplicate content.

My tips: Stick to limited edition PLR (less competition), ensure you re-write the content at least 30%, change the keywords, and definitely change the title. In addition, I also check all re-writes through Copyscape premium to be extra sure they are original.

        Hope this helps
        Kym

OP - It's highly unlikely that you will be the first person to try and publish the PLR online. You need to get creative and either rewrite it before you publish it, or convert it into an ebook, an autoresponder course or even an audio/video course. This will add much more value for your readers/customers.

I use copyscape and so far it is doing good. The premium service is at $5 per 100 searches, and this $5 will be money well spent. I was thinking that the $5 will be spent on other things if I do not use it for this premium service anyway, so why not invest in a good service like copyscape (personal opinion, no offence intended).

I write and rewrite content and my take on this is that if this content you mention was written exclusively for you then no one else might have it. If that is not the case then rather than spending time checking you might as well rewrite the content extensively.

A lot of people think rewriting is just about changing the title or adding a sentence here and there. The best way to check the uniqueness of your article is to go to a content checker like DupeFreePro.

I generally rewrite my articles to 65% minimum. The whole idea is to add value for my audience and not get shot down by the duplicate content filters.

    I hope this helps.
